Belize vs St. John (or other islands)

Getting married in October and running out of time. Was originally planning on Italy but that has fallen through.
There is a wealth of info here and all is appreciated as we are clueless where to start.
Now thinking something closer and have honed in on the islands or possibly Belize.
Any guidance? TIA

While beautiful Belize is a third world country. Were you thinking about Ambergris Cayre which is an island off the coast of Belize?
St. John is easier to get to and much more American. IOW, you guests would probably enjoy the St. John experience over the Belize experience.

For Belize, we are an interested in splitting the trip 50/50 between the rain forest and the coast. Not sure where on the coast just yet though.

Costa Rica is easy to get to and has great beaches, rainforests, mountains, etc.

Like VABuckeye said, Belize is a third-world country. I've really enjoyed the two times I've gone, but it's not going to be wedding nice. Great people, amazing diving and some good food here and there, but not many paved roads, trash laying around, no nice restaurants, etc.

I have been to Costa Rica 3 times and love it. Belize was appealing because it’s something different with similar activities to Costa Rica and the water looks beautiful.
The main concern with the Virgin Islands would be activities. I get bored at the beach after about 3 days..

St. John isn't for you. We go every year, it's a marathon of sitting on beautiful beaches, drinking and relaxing. Besides that we do a boat day to the BVI once per trip.

We did our honeymoon split 50/50 rainforest and island in Belize and I would 100 percent do it again. We flew into Belize City and caught a small single engine plane down to Punta Gorda (very south of Belize) where Copal Tree Lodge picked us up in a land cruiser and brought us to resort. Middle of the jungle. Howler monkeys will become friends. They grow most of their own food, make their own rum, make their own chocolate etc. Amazing experience. We then flew on same single engine plane up a little to Dangriga where we got on a boat and brought out to Cocoplum Cay. Small private island "resort". 16 acres with like 12 or so bungalows. Was a great beach/water isolation part of the trip. Plenty of opportunities to fish/scuba/whatever offered.

We have direct flights to STT from Dulles but I'm not sure about what other posters experience from their airport of choice.

Agreed. Lots of easy flights to Belize City from Houston. Less flights per day to St. John.

i worked in Belize for about a year and a half. Had a house in a marina, in the town called Placencia. Awesome place!!! Got my PADI cert while living there and the scuba diving there is unreal! Theres also a local gym that is literally on the water called Evolution Beach Gym thats ran by a local couple.
Hit them up on WhatsApp 5016081643, they do private spearfishing and lobster diving trips & they'll even prepare your catch from that day for you.
Check out Naïa Resort and Spa for y'alls stay on the south end.
If y'all head north towards the rain forest definitely go tour the Xunantunich Maya Ruins. Hope this info helps out!!

For those that don't know. There are ZERO flights to St. John. You fly into St. Thomas (STT) and then take a 15 or so minute ferry to St. John from Red Hook.

BVI > USVI
When the destination is St. John this is a debatable statement. While I prefer the BVI, St. John is much more convenient for the average traveler.
