On the night of August 5, 1864, at the height of the Battle of Mobile Bay, Union Rear Admiral David G. Farragut purposefully sailed his flagship - USS Hartford - into a minefield as his flotilla of ships stormed passed the Confederate guns of Fort Morgan. Famously uttering one of the great quotes in U.S. Navy history, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" Admiral Farragut and his fleet of Union gunboats successfully ran past Fort Morgan and into the bay.

I can smell the salt from right here. The dude had been in the Navy since he was 12.

Farragut was born in Tennessee and spent the entirety of his youth in the South.

If the Civil War was about "states rights" and not slavery, as asserted by so many confused Southerners, which "states rights" specifically was the Civil War about?

Taxing the frick out of raw consumables via tariff because the Brits were willing to pay a lot more than the northern textile factories.

Whatever rights covered that.

The south fought against unfair taxes the Yankees put on them and their lack of representation in government

Then the Yankees “won” and nowadays you go sit in a wage cage 10 hours a day and get to pay the government 50% for doing it and your vote doesn’t count.
