This one is a head scratcher. Pan Zhanle breaks world record to win men's 100m free by winning the sprint event by over a full second and lowering the WR by 0.40 seconds. That is the largest margin of victory in the event is over five decades. The uproar in the swimming community is immense. As it stands, this is the greatest swim in the sport's history by the FINA powerpoint index.

Rowdy kept saying his challenger was going to pass Pan down the stretch because he's the fastest in the world at the end and dude couldn't even get within a body length of the Chinese guy who led start to finish and never lost pace like he had extra oxygen producing red EPO blood cells

Rowdy's commentary was very telling to me. I watch all these meets (Sectionals, US Open, Pan AM, Trials, etc.). I have never heard him stay silent after a WR like that before. He crushed the WR...and Rowdy never said a peep...like he knew something. Hawke is crushing him on social media now. There is a lot of skepticism on this swim.

They’re worse than Russia. No one should trust anything China produces athletically.

Ledecky has been dropping nuggets this whole week about how some countries train all year doped up, then get clean enough to pass Randoms at the ceremonies

Those aren't randoms, those are in competition tests randoms are what occur outside of competition.

Pan won by a full second. The rest of the field all finished within a half a second of each other.

Phelps was astounded at how fast and by what margin this guy won by. He broke his own world record so was not out of the blue. When he set it was last NOVEMBER I think.

This is like someone in track sprint t wining by over a second it just does not happen. A second in swimming and track sprint ring is a huge win.

On a brighter note for me I bet him to win 50 free at +5500. Now it’s down to +750
I could cash out now and get 5x my original bet. Should have bet more.

Yes degenerate

I mean Qin Haiyang is the 200m breast stroke WR holder and he's looked like shite this Olympics likely because he's having to swim clean. He was one of the 21 swimmers that tested positive in 2021 but were secretly cleared by Chinese officials and allowed to participate in Tokyo.

And they're PISSED they're being tested out of the arse at this Olympics:

quote:

China’s swimmers had been tested on average five to seven times each in their first 10 days in France, and at all times of day and night, the national camp has claimed.

Qin said: “This proves that the European and American teams feel threatened by the performances of the Chinese team in recent years.

“Some tricks aim to disrupt our preparation rhythm and destroy our psychological defence. But we are not afraid.

“When you have a clear conscience, you do not fear slander. The team is currently preparing at the established pace. My teammates and I will resist the pressure and win more medals to silence the sceptics.”

Qin is a fricking idiot. This validates the suspicion when you don't do shite when the spotlight is on you.

That's some eastern bloc propaganda right there. It's like they just pass the media manual around.

And this is in a pool that’s been slow all week. I don’t think there had been a world record set before today.

Statements like these remind me of how China tried to blame the Hong Kong protests on "US intelligence agents and spies," as if the Hong Kong people weren't just tired of extraordinary incompetence from Chinese political officials.

Xi honestly can't die from lung cancer soon enough.

This is WADA's (World Anti-Doping Agency's) fault. In 2021, there were 20 Chinese swimmers who tested positive for the same illegal substance.
WADA then accepted the results of China's own internal investigation, which said that all the athletes ate tainted food from the same kitchen.
Later when, the media started digging, they found that China has funded WADA more than any other country. What bullshite!

For years, they've been buying off a lot of officials connected with the United Nations as well. It's embarrassing to watch them run away when journalists ask reasonable questions about China's human rights abuses.
