If it was the typical reasons, then Africa would sweep, but our brothers are better than their brothers by a large margin. Meanwhile our Asians can’t beat China in anything. What’s going on?

It’s super popular here. Same reason why we don’t win men’s soccer.

Only ours have the extra tendon

Africa's number 1 sport is soccer. Our Asians are all studying for the MCAT.

Africa doesn’t exactly have the resources to compete with that. Kinda like how the US sucks so bad in soccer. It’s mostly about the investment and opportunity.

Well now French players of African descent are taking over the NBA. When you combine pure athleticism with structure and training, you get world class players.

Culture. So many people play it.
Interestingly On the flip side Lithuania has been good in the past. They won Olympics bronze in 1992, 1996, and 2000 (4th place in 2004 and 2008). They also won bronze at world championships in 2010. Their population is only 2.8M.

How come there are so many Europeans on NBA teams?
5 of the last 6 MVP's in the NBA have been white
How'd that happen?

I’m seeing the following
White: Jokic
Not white: Embiid, Giannis, Harden, Westbrook, Curry
And then further back, Durant, LeBron, D Rose, all also not white.

But China invests a lot of resources into obscure sports that other countries don’t really put much effort into. Huge advantage when the Chinese athletes are living at their training facility and practicing is basically their job. Compared to Americans in the same sport that are working a full time job to pay for their living expenses and mostly have to fund their own training costs, while having to work around their job schedule to get their training in.

Countries are good at the sports that are popular, because those sports draw the most players, attention, money, etc.
Basketball has been popular in the United States for a long time. Even in Africa, it is still behind soccer and other activities, like survival.
