Some perspective on the “gun violence” agenda from the media and political left

I saw this on Twitter, reposted by Rob Schneider, and I thought to myself, “this can’t possibly be true.” So I did some very simple digging, and I proved myself wrong.
Pew research: Gun deaths in America
Additionally, over half of those gun related deaths are by suicide. Another ~10% are from law enforcement engaging with a criminal, and yet another ~10% are accidental.
Conversely, there are estimated to be around 250,000 medical malpractice/error deaths each year - a number that has fluctuated and some speculate has reached near 400,000 in some years.
Johns Hopkins study suggests medical errors are third-leading cause of death in U.S.
The question that ended up red pilling me is the same question I’ll pose to everyone else here:
If they’re lying to me about this, what else are they lying about?

There were 107,941 drug-involved overdose deaths reported in the U.S. in 2022 (Figure 1); 70% of cases occurred among males (yellow line). Synthetic opioids other than methadone (primarily fentanyl) were the main driver of drug overdose deaths with a over 7.5-fold increase from 2015 to 2022
Edit: How many of the gun deaths were related to the black market drug trade? Many, imho

Don't have a coronary here as I am as pro 2A as they come but...
The trick to this stat is gun DEATHS vs people shot. Less than 10% of people shot die. Our trauma care has vastly improved since the GWOT.
So this is a case of our side skewing stats to make a point. Which is what the Left does every single day.
Lies, damn lies and statistics you know.

You have a point, jb, but by that same reasoning, not every malpractice ends in death either. So, I believe the OP’s point stands.

Abortion is the leading cause of death.
They've counted suicide by gun as gun violence deaths for years.
They also count 18 or 19 year olds in the kids category.

Pretty much everything

It is an apples to apples comparison. There are many more people injured by medical malpractice than who die. Just as there are many more people who are shot than who die. So, this being an apples to apples comparison, I don’t understand how this is skewing the numbers.
And also, as a general rule, those on the internet who start off their argument by stating how much they support gun rights and the second amendment usually do not in fact support gun rights and the second amendment. Not saying you don’t, just generally speaking.

As others have mentioned, medical malpractice fits into the same mold that you’ve built. Many more live than are killed due to malpractice, and ironically - it’s due to the same reason you listed.
However, I’ll play along.
Shooting deaths are meticulously recorded, for various reasons. Medical malpractice deaths are pretty much only recorded when there is an associated lawsuit. How many thousands (10s of thousands?) of people die due to medical malpractice that goes undiscovered?

Well, for certain they are lying about Fentanyl….

I'd also like to sew a study behind the demographics of non-suicidal gun violence...
