Got a weld test set up this coming week, but on the fence going in with JVC. Working 12s day shift.
How long is it taking to get out the parking area at the plant? (No busing for me)
I’ve worked at the Phillip66 so I know the area well. Trying to find some people to give me some insight, contacts. I don’t care if the job is a wreck , that’s more money to be made. I have a second weld test set up this week, not as much $$. I’d rather take a pay cut if it’s that bad down there.
Thanks!!!!

Yep. I started a thread about this a few weeks ago. Sounds pretty rough. It’s a shitty road once you get south of Belle Chasse and the options for places to live are not great.
I talked to someone last week who is staying in Gretna and some days it’s taking him 1.5 hours to get to the site.

I think it’s 8 or 9,000 working down there. It’s the largest construction project project in North America right now.

Add 2 hours to your drive home.
That hourly rate goes down quick, when you factor it in.

It’s pretty easy to edit your original post and fix the spelling. Baw

Is this $44 per hour and $750 weekly per diem?

If it is, let me tell you something. First, welding is a young man’s work. If there is this kind of money in it, some inconvenience shouldn’t hurt. Bank that money and don’t live out of convenience stores like they did in my day.

Second, the prevailing wage when I was a pipe welder was $14/hr plus a small per diem stipend. We were raking it in, we thought. It’s all relative to the time. It hasn’t been that long ago in the grand scheme of things.

I got out when I couldn’t find suitable work in-state and young enough to build two more retirements.

Also had quite a few professional welding testers that did really well. Spend a week or so in the test shop, talk to the hands about the job. If it wasn’t to their liking, drag-up and hit the next test shop.

The hardest test for a welder to pass is the drug test. Good luck.

If he ain’t making 50+ an hour and 150 a day per diem, that baw ain't a golden arm welder.
