Jean Laffite set up shop there for smuggling slaves and other goods he amassed from his early Privateering days before being forced to Galveston by the US Military.

Forstall's Plantation site is underwater and you can see some remnants of structures at low tide.

Gustav put a hurting on the Fort. The above photo is from 2002. Here is a shot from 1995:

Another map showing Forstall's Plantation location..

Do you mean Fort Livingston. Because what you included pictures of was Fort Livingston.

No pictures exist of the old Forstall's Plantation site so I posted pics of Fort Livingston since I mentioned it in the thread title. When the tide is low, you can see remnants of the Forstall's site further east down the beach.

Swipe Map at Bottom Is Cool

I don't know how to embed the swipe map only, but the figure gives a good idea of the land loss there.

I could only show each one fully from 1956 until recent times. You would need to investigate the airstrip area to see Forstall's Plantation old site.

Walked around Ft Livingston about 40 years ago. All I remember was sinking in the mud walking from the surf to the little bit of dry land. It must have been a rainy period and/or high tides at the time.

I’ve been there as a kid… ran all over the fort. It was cool.

You wanna see something nuts? Launch Google Earth on a pc and click on the little clock in the tools. See how much property has disappeared from grand terre. There used to be 4 big buildings close to the beach that are now all gone.

I saw Fort Livingston up close in 2010 and 2011. I was an employee for the State of Louisiana, working the BP oil spill.

Have caught many speckled trout near there. That’s all I got.

Guy I went to high school with (mid 70s) got a summer job working at the LWLF facility that used to be on the island. His family had some kind of connection with the powers that be at LWLF. He said it was pretty cool to spend the summer out there, but after dark, the mosquitoes were brutal.

Yes Many times. My parents lived on the East end of Grand Isle. Right across Barataria Pass from the fort.

I have slept in the fort with the cattle that lived there .

Davis has a chapter about Grand Terre in his book “ Washed Away .
