Looking at last election result, Broome almost got 50% to avoid run off. Now with her having a true opponent in Ted James you are almost assured of a run off. My question is does an outside opponent, someone like a Sid Edwards, have a shot to steal votes to either sneak into runoff or propel one of the top 2 candidates.

Sid has coached at Catholic, Redemptorist, Central, and Istrouma. So his reach is probably more than many candidates would have. He is registered as a Republican although I expect him to be very much in the middle.

Is there any shot?

Big concern is he has said repeatedly that he still plans on coaching. How is he going to do both?

Zero, just cause he was involved with some schools where rich folks who care least abt BR politics, go, is not going to win him any votes among the common public!

Maybe for him to make the runoff, but Broome or James will roll him in a head to head.

His coaching resume pretty much spans the spectrum of EBR socioeconomics as much as anything possibly could.

I had no idea he was running for mayor and can’t believe he really has much of a shot, though. It’s just not because of your false narrative.

There was a runoff in 2020; Broome beat Steve Carter, who immediately died, in the general.

You comment is politically naive and a myopic view of the respect people in this parish have for Coach Sid. He has more time in the inner cities dealing with people than the current Mayor and Ted James combined. Sid has attended youth football games in the worst parts of town for over 30 years. He has engaged with those communities on a personal level more than any candidate. He has positively impacted thousands of inner city kids’ lives. He chose to end his career at Istrouma for the sole purpose of giving kids in that district an opportunity to get off of the street and get involved in something other than gangs / drugs / violence. I don’t know if he can win, but I do know without a doubt he will pull more black votes in this parish than any white mayoral candidate in the last 20 plus years. Dont be shocked if you see him finish a close third or actually make the run off.

Doesn't help that local BR Republicans are pushing James and that no Republican can win

I will 100% be voting for my 6th grade P.E. teacher.

Will be the first and probably only political sign I ever put in my yard.

Not sure how he coaches and does this. But I know this. Will the other candidates have 10 Friday nights in front of 2000+ people?

I do think people may understand how well known he is. Not sure if he will have the $$ to campaign unless if some of the so called wealthy people from his past stops help.

Can he get more votes than Piazza did?

He will have to resign to be the mayor
No way he can work two jobs
Maybe he continues to be a volunteer coach on Fri nights in the fall
