I don't really get the big deal about Ruth Chris's, i've eaten there a few times and had the filet each time. The steak was not marblized that well and once it was cooked way too much. The veggies are boring and are just drenched in butter.
Little Village downtown is dirty, but many people I know like that place, I wasn't impressed but then again italian places in BTR have always been run by sketchy people.

Ruth's steak is the guage others are measured by...(It was as good as Ruth's...it was almost as good as Ruth's)As with any restaurant, the trick is consistancy. Vulcan makes a patented oven only for Ruth's that will reach extreme heat and sear the steak perfectly. So you always get a perfect steak.
As for your remark about The Village, It is a renovated old house...never found it dirty...the food is always good and service is outstanding(for Baton Rouge)...As far as the "sketchy people" remark....wow...just wow

Same here. Went Christmas Eve and for five of us bill was about $260 before tip. Couple of drinks each.
Steak was excellent and I always enjoy their side dishes and appetizers.
However, I find that the one in BR does not serve their drinks in the big tumblers as done in Lafayette.

Little Village is dirty??
Thats a first..
Oh and the Ruth Chris filet is the only steak that is not USDA Prime.. But of course a filet doesnt have that much marbeling to begin with after all its a filet.

I didn't mean as in criminals. I meant as in fat liars that take shortcuts that you may not want them to, if you knew about it. Remember Maggio's? Zito at Drusillas? Have you been in the back of Drusillas? I have and there's roaches in plain sight.

Good but don't waste your money. It's ridiculously expensive.
It's the same price as any other top quality steakhouse.

You know what I am going tonight and it is free. I begged my momma and she got me a chair with them. People can talk shite, but when you have a steak there and it is cooked just right it cannot be beat. The food is good when they are on and I have also been when it sucked. If you haven't been you have to try it once. I recommend the filet or ribeye medium rare with the creamed spinach or potatoes augratin. If you like salad get the chop salad it is fire. Have fun! Oh and please choose a nice bottle of red wine to compliment the steak.

I'm not a huge fan of steak, but the steak there seemed like it melted in my mouth. It was heavenly.

my biggest complaint about ruth's was the fact that they no longer have their escargot
the service went down a bit at the veterans location after katrina (but that can be expected), but i have not been back in quite some time to see if it rebounded

same at Sullivans, all prime except the filet....I think you will find this standard in the industry. But let us not forget the importance of aging beef.

Dont recall Sullivans claiming to have USDA Prime and I have seen many notes online about them using USDA Choice. A friend that worked there also said they didnt use Prime.

talked to the wife of their former executive chef about them not using prime...she called him and he said all prime except the filet...at least when he was chef.

I know the cut of NY Strip I had (was prob 7 months ago) was a horrible cut of meat. It had thick gristle around it. Havent been back since. I find there are better options in BR. From what I can find online it doesnt appear USDA prime was ever in their lineup.. The franchise infor says that Lonestar serves USDA Choice, Their high end steak house is Del Frisco serves the USDA Prime and Sullivans serves high quality Angus. Plus why wouldnt they say its USDA Prime on their menu?

Really have no idea...but like you, with everything on the board, I ask her...she said she thought it was prime and called him to ask...He said the filet was the only thing not prime....since he no longer works there...he really has no reason not to give an honest answer...so let's get to the bottom of this and find out once and for all...not that I care...I don't like their service

Nor do I.. The service there is horrible. The steak I had was better than the service.. Its the Hooters of the steak chains.. Id rather take that money and go to a good place.

Specials are expensive and the "village bread" is NOT complimentary. Forewarned!

The village bread price is definitly worth it. Its nto exactly just bread on a plate. 6.99 for a loaf that is 2 feet long and 4 bucks for half that is not that bad. Its the best bread you can get in BR too. As for the specials being expensive then why not order from the menu. They have entrees in the 14 dollar range.. The specials are generally something done with a USDA Prime filet or Chilean sea bass not exactly cheap proteins.

Everything is a la carte and most items are pricey.Service is great. I want to say the Filet is around $35 or so. I can hear that steak sizzling now...man I'm getting hungry just thinking about it...
