Great job of fighting back over the last month or 2 to get into the thick of things but those final 2 games against the Rangers got me a little nervous about us returning to early season form Hopefully the all star break came at the perfect time and nipped that in the bud

Pretty big series this weekend. Anything but getting swept is a fine result IMO. Mariners starters are always going to be tough so we can’t have any of our leaving runners on bullshite

Tucker still without a time frame per Dana. I’m guessing it’ll be mid August at this point

Tucker is basically LMJ at this point. Forget that name.

Servais is a dick hole hope we sweep their asses.

So, as it turns out, my new wife is an Astros fan (she’s from south Texas). We have honeymooned up the Cali and Oregon coasts, doing the Mother Nature thing. We went to Mt. Rainier last night, then drove to Tacoma, headed to Olympia National Forest, then fly out Sunday.

I believe we are going to watch the Astros and Mariners in Seattle tomorrow. We are trying to check all the MLB teams’ parks off our list, so this worked out for the both of us and her being able to see her favorite team is bonus. Due to certain features about marriage, I will put my Astros animosity on the shelf for a minute and will be proudly* in solidarity with the Stros to put an L on the Mariners.

Wouldn’t mind any of these for us besides Vlad

Imagine Mason Miller in Baltimore

Enjoy looked like an awesome park. I went to Seattle back when LSU played Washington like 15 years ago and didn’t get to attend a game but it seemed really cool from the outside. That was also before Seattle kinda turned into a shithole though

We have really enjoyed the west coast and PNW. Too much to do on one trip. I’m very much looking forward to a baseball game where I can just chill and “be there”. We’ve done 1400+ miles of driving. Go stros.

Paredes would be expensive but that is such a nice fit. Could play 1B the rest of this year then slide back to 3B next year after Bregman leaves

No way we get Kikuchi and Fedde. Do not want Vlad, either.

I didn’t realize Kikuchi would be a rental. I guess it could happen, but I’d prefer Fedde alone if we get a SP.

Didn’t really even think about him taking over for Bregs. That’s the kind of deal I’d be willing to give up higher rated prospects for. Just not a rental

Crochet with Corbin Burnes in Baltimore would be ridiculous.

Crochet is an interesting one to me

He’s obviously a stud but he’s coming off Tommy John and has already eclipsed his career innings high this season. Seems like a very risky combo when trading away huge prospects

Wouldn’t be shocked to see Dodgers go after him. Their rotation is pretty rough at the moment

Paredes makes some sense for 1B this year and 3B next since there's no apparent heir to take over 3B.

I mentioned him last night but I also wouldn't mind trying to get Yandy Diaz for a reasonable price. He's got next year at $10M and then a $12M team option for 2026.

Here’s an blurb from yahoo about the deadline..

quote:

The Astros have reached the ALCS in seven straight seasons, but it looked like that streak would end this year, as Houston came out of the gate with a 10-20 record. Since then, though, they’ve won 40 of 66 games and now sit at 50-46. To catch and hold off the Seattle Mariners in the AL West, Houston needs a starting pitcher, bullpen help and another bat — ideally one that can play first base, where the Astros have received the worst production in MLB.

A starting pitcher and bullpen help: Houston has an entire rotation on the injured list in Justin Verlander, Lance McCullers Jr., Cristian Javier, Jose Urquidy and Luis García. Verlander is expected back in late July, but McCullers had a setback earlier this month, and his return is uncertain. Javier, Urquidy and García all had Tommy John surgery and are out for the year. As with the Yankees, a rental starting pitcher such as Flaherty would make a lot of sense for the Astros. The same goes for bullpen rental arms such as Scott, Estévez, Dylan Floro of the Nationals, Jalen Beeks of the Rockies or Andrew Chafin of the Tigers.

Another bat: Bell is an available rental and a Texas native, and he'll cost more in added salary than prospects. Alternatively, would the Cubs consider moving on from Cody Bellinger? He’s a Scott Boras client who could opt out if he gets hot in the second half. If he doesn't, Bellinger’s player options for 2025 and 2026 are virtually identical to the financial commitments the Astros would have to make to keep free agents Alex Bregman in 2025 and Kyle Tucker in 2026. Or, if the Toronto Blue Jays were to sell, could Justin Turner play first base in Houston?

Trade proposal: Houston has one of the weaker farm systems in MLB, so it might be better for the Astros to offer money, rather than prospects. The Cubs have a good farm system and could prioritize the future financial flexibility associated with trading Bellinger. Chicago could pair him with Kyle Hendricks, who admittedly has had a tough year (if you squint hard enough, you can see a 4.34 xFIP) but also has significant playoff experience and threw seven shutout innings in his last outing before the All-Star break. Would Houston trade a couple of lottery-ticket prospect arms for Bellinger, Hendricks and cash considerations?
