Mid-Summer Band thread for all the bored Souls on the Rant.

This pertains to LSU and most of the SEC, except for Texas A & M and maybe Auburn.

All the Rednecks want to go get Nachos and most of the LSU Corporate "Give-A-Ways" want to get the hell out of Dodge to beat the traffic.

I only made it through half the video. Are you suggesting we should march how the HBCU style bands march?

If so, the same people who constantly complain about the band would absolutely lose their shite. They would claim they are never going to another LSU game again, even though the main complainers never went anyway.

You post on here regularly about how terrible TGBFTL is since Frank/Linda/Roy left, and you are JUST NOW seeing this?

LSU should open every football season with a HBCU school in Week 0.

The Football team gets a practice game to work the kinks out and the fans get to see an entertaining HBCU band at half-time.

BTW, it's a damn crying fricking shame how the "Delicate Geniuses" (LSUAD) have totally "Deemphasized" TGBFTL during football games in favor of nauseating artificial noise...........

I still love the LSU pre-game salute, still gives me frissons. But as an old geezer I can tell you the fans don't get into even that like they used to, they pretty much fizzle out after the salute to each side of the stadium where they used to stay in a frenzy and then explode when the LSU was formed on the field.

As for halftime, I used that to take a break and stretch my legs, honestly not very interested. I do still like when the alumni band performs with the regular band though.

The Southern game was my worst Tiger stadium experience ever. No thank you.

I don't know about being a 'worst experience' but the blue haze of weed hovering over the campus, was of EPIC proportions and the vehicle/foot traffic was off the hook for sure...took about an hour to get from So. Acadian to Highland and that was 100 minutes BEFORE kickoff ! Worst 'job' of traffic/crosswalk control I've ever witnessed !

That's pretty funny but he obviously has never seen St. Paul's High School band from Covington march in Bacchus or Endymion. They are some funky honkies.

I wonder how many of the cuties that walk in front of the St Paul’s band went on to be Golden Girls. Things I contemplate on a hot Friday afternoon in the middle of summer…

Agreed. I think the only game I ever sat for the entire halftime show was the Auburn game after 9/11. I think every soul present stuck their butts in their seats.

That was pretty great!

I freely admit that for me, the football game comes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in importance over the band at a distant 4th, and halftime is for bathroom and concessions.

But, there used to be more interest in the band and the halftime performance of the mascot Mike back in the 80’s when I was a student. Mike strutting as Boy George while the band played Karma Chameleon, or in a Batman suit when the band played the Batman theme music (John Williams) during the year that Batman hit the theaters was simply EPIC and a must watch!

Also, please remember this guy is a comedian, and his routine was unique and very entertaining and funny. Don’t get so butt-hurt.

Hard pass. Rather just eat nachos with the rednecks.

I went to school at Auburn. Years later I moved back with my daughter and wife. We became friendly with a college girl that was in the band who worked as a waitress.

After a midseason SEC game like against a Vandy she was upset the following Monday and she asked us what we thought.

"She said she and her friends were severely disappointed at the number of people that get up to go to the bathroom or concessions at halftime. She could not understand why they would not go in the 2nd quarter or 3rd quarter. In her words, actual game play was like 2hrs while the band only got 12 minutes.

Verge Ausberry needs to get Florida A&M in here for a Week 0 warm-up game and LSU needs to pay for the full FAMU band to make the trip to Baton Rouge!

Are you fricking serious? Absolutely Not!

Tiger Band marching HBCU style. That's a good one.

I'm saying we should play some HBCU schools in Week 0 to see their entertaining bands at halftime.

The entire point of half-time is to be entertained enough that you want to stay in your seat and watch the show/ (Not to get up and go get some STALE ARAMARK NACHOS).

Technically, game actual “playing time” is 12 minutes.

I enjoy the band before the game, and I really wish they played more during the game, in place of the terrible piped-in "music" they blare.

But halftime? I have no idea what they even do, since I haven't watched a halftime show since I was a kid. People complain about the length of games, but the time could be shortened considerably by cutting the halftime by 50%. It's mainly so Mom and Dad can watch little Susie play the piccolo, anyway.
