Saw that the media picked the Sun Devils dead last in the new Big 12. Coming off back to back 3 wins seasons. In the last 16 years they failed to have a winning season 9 times, one bowl win in the last 10 years.

This will be Hurley's 10th season, has yet to win a NCAA tourney game, has had 5 losing seasons. One of the reasons he is back there was no to fire him. The interim AD appointed in November when Ray Anderson was forced out, announced he was retiring in May.

quote:

that he is out in May for family reasons. He’s not going out by ending other people’s jobs
.

The AD that hired Herb Edwards, resigned so that was a good thing but then they hired Graham Rossini.

quote:

The expected hire of Graham Rossini as Arizona State University’s new athletic director has thrown up some red flags across the industry.

But among the biggest eye-brow raisers centers around the search process itself.

“The only reason Graham Rossini is expected to get this job is because he works at ASU. If you took the identical resume any other place in the country, college athletics, he wouldn’t be a serious candidate,” SunDevilSource.com’s Chris Karpman told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Wednesday. “Michael Crow’s shown over the years for a very long time the propensity, the willingness to be against the grain and do things he just prefers even against the suggestion of others. … Graham Rossini, who I’ve been told for weeks, the last several months, is the only person Michael Crow has targeted for this position."

quote:

“(The lack of vetting ahead of the expected Rossini hiring) was very baffling actually to a lot of (people in the industry), particularly given the atmospherics of ASU really struggling in the last few years, the NCAA investigation, a lot of sentiment out there that there needs to be a course correction of kind of the leadership element and Michael Crow almost being tone deaf to that is the perception in the industry,” he added.

over 79,000 enrollment

Also in 2022-2023 in was noted that Arizona State athletic department was over $320 million in debt to the university. But then the President restructed it and the debt was gone, and no one knows how.

quote:

How did ASU athletics eliminate more than $300 million in debt?

While it isn't clear exactly how the Arizona State Athletic Department no longer has that debt hanging over it, social media certainly had thoughts.

I think they have a shite ton of online students. Regular on campus size is that of A&M and some other large state schools.

Crow may be the worst university president in the country, so not likely until he’s gone.

Herm was one of the worst hires in the last 50 years of collegiate sports.

He was, but Antonio Pierce had that roster absolutely loaded with talent. They got pillaged in the portal.

I looked at that Rossini guy’s LinkedIn and it didn’t seem like he had a bad resume. But yeah they are a disaster.

Herm wasn't even the worst hire by a major Arizona school in that coaching cycle.

One of the big issues was the acquisition of that talent. Though it was stuff that would be yawned at at real football schools.

1. Grand Canyon University (101,816 students)
2. Liberty University (96,709 students)
3.. Arizona State University Campus Immersion (80,065 students)

On campus student body for ASU is 65,492....Which is still #1.

Why was Antonio Pierce able to load the roster with talent?
Blatant cheating. He didn’t even try to hide it.

Why did they get pillaged in the portal?
Sanctions because of Pierce’s actions.

Go ahead and stick up for Antonio Pierce. Maybe he’ll work out for the Raiders, but he was so far in over his head, as well as corrupt and reckless in Tempe, that he left that program in shambles that will take years to recover from.

They used to have a great baseball program, too, but they haven’t contended for a national title since 2009. Much like USC, they’ve failed to adapt to how the sport has changed.

Seems like ASU always has tons of future pros in football, baseball, and basketball, but just can never get their act together.

Ned Flanders once explained Arizona State's attendance numbers....

Ned Flanders : The Lord has drowned the wicked and spared the righteous.

Maude Flanders : Isn't that Homer Simpson?

Ned Flanders : Huh, looks like Heaven is easier to get into than Arizona State.

Most of ASU enrollment is from California kids who can't get in, or afford to get in, to their state schools
