Bring back LSU Wrestling, an open letter to Scott Woodward...

The powers that be nixed my original post because I copied and pasted an all-caps thread title.
Bring back LSU Wrestling.
Since LSU lost its wrestling program, which was very good, because of title IX, LSU needs to bring the program back.
Louisiana finally recognizes girls wrestling as an official sport, with their own state championship, LSU should finally bring back wrestling with a women's team as well. It's been too long.
I know Louisiana is basically a football state, unfortunately, we're losing too many good wrestlers to out of state programs.
The SEC needs to step up as well.
Mizzou and OU's programs are staying in the Big XII.

This letter is to Mr. Woodward and will attempt to make a strong case for the return of LSU wrestling through the angle of several people that are invested in the situation. The list of people are as follows:
Mike Clevenger, LSU All-American, 1984
Grant Leeth, Tarleton State head wrestling coach
Skylar Whiddon and David George, LSU wrestling club co-captains
Rodrigo Diaz, Missouri wrestling alumni, Louisiana native
Jimmy Bible, head coach at Brusly High
Kevin Jackson, 3x LSU All-American, 1992 Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling

I love Olympic sports but yall are insane if you think athletic departments are expanding after the NIL rulings

I’d rather bring back boxing

College wrestling is damn exciting to watch. It's a fairly inexpensive sport too. All they need are the uniforms & mats. Wrestling at LSU would be an incredible addition.

Long shot at best but the NCAA looks to be adding women’s wrestling as a championship winter sport in 2026 so it has a better shot now than any time post Title IX

Men’s soccer may be first in line if we ever start another athletic program

A better discussion would be “which sports are getting cut” because that is more realistic.
No sports are being added in the current climate.

honestly should be discussing which programs are getting cut first

What could have been had LSU not terminated its wrestling program.

There's something about It. Id love to know that my state has the most bad arse wrestler in the country if they win the ship

Zero chance this happens. With scholarship limits going away, there will be more men’s sports on the chopping block.

Daniel wrestled at Oklahoma State, one of the premier wrestling programs in the country. Hypothetically speaking, had Cormier wrestled at LSU, it wouldn’t have changed a thing on his career record or winning a National Championship. Unfortunately for Daniel, timing and weight class was never in his favor. Cael Sanderson was his kryptonite as Cormier was 0-8 vs. Sanderson including losing in the NCAA finals 8-4. Cormier had the misfortune of competing against the greatest wrestler in the history of the sport. Sanderson finished his collegiate career 159-0 and won 4 National Championships.
As far as wrestling at LSU, D1 schools have 32 wrestlers on the roster. Coaching salaries, NIL money, and travel would likely cost $2,000,000 per year and won’t turn a profit. With Title 9, you need to add a sport(s) with 32 females. Add another $1.5M to the budget with no return on investment.
As a former LA state wrestling champion, I’d love to see a competitive wrestling program. Sadly, I don’t see it ever happening
