My father in law got me to watching the original series. It's pretty damn good too. We were talking about the amount of people Tubbs and Crockett kill. Does anybody want to take a guess? Multiple folks or more die on each episode.

Castillo was the real star. Maybe an entire spinoff show for him would have been too much, but at least more Castillo-centric episodes and a mini-series or two. Olmos was incredible in that role.

First 2 seasons are the best. So many great episodes. Third season is fairly good. Fourth season is almost unwatchable. I don't think I ever saw the full fifth season.

Wasn't this the show that helped revitalize South Beach especially the art deco buildings? When they first filmed the show it was a complete shithole.

I have some google stick that is jaikbroke. It has anything you can think of on it. That's how I watched it. I watched the Bikeriders and Horizon this week. Both were good.

Imagine watching it in 1984.
It was a groundbreaking show, a cultural phenomenon around the time Dallas and Dynasty were #1 and #2.
It's sort of akin to when Soprano hit. Game changer for TV.

Yeah, when Miami Vice started filming in South Beach it was pretty rundown. Local residents were a mix of druggies, sex workers, and retirees. Many of them ended up in episodes as extras. Lots of empty and neglected buildings. The show would come in and fix places up for filming, paint facades in the colors they wanted. The whole aesthetic of the show is still very much a part of Miami.

I don’t have to imagine because I remember watching it from the very first episode. It was more cinematic than simply a television show. It brought grit and a sense of realism that other shows didn’t. It incorporated contemporary music, style and fashion into a “vibe” that no other TV show did. It was truly ahead of its time in that regard.
Unlike some other “detective” shows that told about the characters trauma which happened off screen, this showed Crocketts partner getting killed in the first episode. It showed him having trouble with his wife and eventually getting divorced. They killed off Gregory Sierra six episodes in. The show had an edge to it. It made the stakes for the cases “real”.
Jan Hammer’s score, not just the theme, was awesome.

My friends sister had a Crockett and Tubbs poster on her wall.
I had never seen TV show posters.
Imagine having a Family Ties poster on your wall.
That was how different and culturally transformative the show was.
