Metairie kicker Cooper Helmke worked out for the staff

Be a huge get to have this kid on PWO, if there are even walk-ons in 2025. Full-on solid kicker and kid. The rare kicker that does both Kohl’s and Chris Sailer.
We are going to need help with field goal duties after Ramos.

Interesting. Having a great kicker and punter is very important.

So we have two scholarship kickers on the roster that can’t kick field goals? (Dibert and Burrell)

Appreciate your info as always Gaston. Sounds like a no brainer type kid. I'm not high on Dibert for anything other than kickoff duties.
If he is still at St. Martins he can catch a ride with Berry!

They’re both kick off specialists. Both are very good in that aspect…KO distance.
They probably have impressive FG range, but I’d bet neither chart well enough to earn that job. Just have never shown that level of accuracy.

Seems weird to have two kickoff specialists on the roster

You don’t have to tell me.
Last two kicker scholarships have been head scratchers. You really have to wonder how they won those offers.

I wonder how long it'll take college football to adopt the new NFL kickoff model. If/when it does, that appears to likely end the kickoff specialist.

Saturday was the first time I heard his name. He's already visited a few schools including Georgia.
They also said he's very good friends with Harlem.

Headed to Orlando today, son will kick with Cooper all week. There’s a BR kid in the 2025 class named Brek that’s very good as well.

His dad played baseball at LSU and his mom was a cheerleader.
If a 2025 spot comes open either would be a very good fit.

I was wondering the same thing.

Being who you are, that’s not a good look. I could post that, but if your son is a competitor at that position like you say…

CBK has shown he doesn’t care about special teams.

It’s simply an observation.
You can pull up Dibert’s camp results same as I can, you can see his high school percentages as well (7 for 12 as a senior).
My son was at the 1 camp Burrell attended to get his ranking. He missed 6 FGs out of 30. Burrell was 9 for 18 on FGs his senior year.
Kickers undergo the most intense criticism and scrutiny you can imagine. It’s simply part of it.
Everyone can get better too.

Gaston,
Is your son going to play any QB this year, or just concentrate on kicking?

He may run some go routes, his QB days are over. They still have him as QB on Maxpreps, but I think some stat guy at his school does those updates.

Gaston, being on the kicking scene, do you know anything about Trey Furey? He’s from my hometown, and I heard he was legit

Looks like he’s walking on at Houston. Definitely been at some camps with him, but with 500+ kickers it’s difficult to stand out unless they make the finals.
