Just a month after his UL Ragin’ Cajuns lost to Baylor in the NCAA Lafayette regional finals, signs are pointing to Gerry Glasco leaving the program.
Rounding Third Softball reported is expected to be named as Texas Tech new softball coach Thursday.
It’s been confirmed that Glasco has received an official offer from the Red Raiders and has until noon Thursday to deliver his decision to Texas Tech’s athletic department.
Glasco just completed his seventh season at UL with a record of 302-88. UL was 45-19 this past season and 22-2 in Sun Belt play.

The McNeese coach would be a good hire. I personally would like to see Alyson Habetz take the job.

If I'm Dr. Bryan Maggard (ULL A.D.) the first call I make is to Alyson Habetz and offer her $275,000 a year + incentives. Habetz retired last year (2023) from Alabama after spending 25 yrs. as Patrick Murphy's Asst Coach. She is a USL/ULL legend, in the Cajuns Sports HOF, played basketball and softball where she was an All-American. Local girl from Crowley who came home to take care of her mother. Make Habetz tell you no, then begin the active search for a new softball coach.
edit: typing as Cajunese beat me to it.
Habetz makes perfect sense as the timing may be right

Not to mention with Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big 12. TT could have a good shot of winning that conference next year. Likely will see the players at UL from Texas hit the portal and follow their coach.

Problem is we don’t have that kind of money…unless we cut our stale men’s basketball coach’s salary in half, which I would FULLY support.

James Landreneau at McNeese seems like a good fit.

When you consider what he accomplished at McNeese, a half inning meltdown from upsetting national seed Washington in their Regional last year. Several Regional championship appearances, he might be able to do some damage with UL’s resources and support in softball.
He’s probably got a decent recruiting connection into East Texas, along with Louisiana, which has a ton of talent.

The McNeese coach can probably get a better job

IMO, if ULL wants a solid coach that will get the Cajuns to OKC, they're gonna have to pay at least $200,000. Glasco's salary is $170K + incentives and he was secured through 2028. Habetz was paid $183K + incentives when she retired last year as the ALA asst coach.
Glasco knew he was leaving and told his assistants to pursue other coaching opportunities. Justin Robicheaux left the program 3 days ago to coach at St Thomas Moore. The new softball coach will bring in all their own assts.

Well Marlin isn't due for his once a decade tournament elimination appearance for another 9 years or so. Wouldn't hurt anything.

I heard TT offered him less than what he’s getting paid now

Rick Freeman at SLU has done a great job too.

What if you were to learn that he did not tell his assistants? Robichaux leaving was happening regardless, and other staffers learned on social media that GG was leaving...
