Pels should draft Tyler Smith. = Trey Murphy 2.0

Played for the G-League Ignite this past season.
6'11, 225lbs, 19 yrs old. Played with Ron Holland, Matas Buzelis who are projected, early-mid lottery selections, respectively. Team sucked overall (Norris Cole was the PG-- go figure) but Tyler actually outplayed Buzelis many nights.
Season Stats: 27 games, Averaged 13.4 pts, 5.2 reb, 1.2 assists, 1blk per game. (22 minutes avg)
Of note: Shot 36% from 3 with over 4 attempts per game. 72.5% from free throw line and an overall 46.5 fg %. His shooting mechanics are such, that he will definitely improve his stroke with more reps.
Watching his film, he eerily reminds me of Trey with his shooting prowess from way deep and comparable athleticism at the rim when cutting to the goal. Plays like a PF but you can tell he can and will put on more weight as he matures.
If we can't get Ke'lel Ware or Darron Holmes, I wouldn't mind a bit if they drafted Tyler to be a backup PF/C and he should get rotational minutes early if Willie has learned from the development of Trey and playing a unique talent early.
I could envision a "small" ball lineup where you have Trey at SF, Tyler at the 4 and Zion at the 5 or vice versa if Tyler can be develoo a more physical mindest early in his career. But, he's drafted bc of his floor spacing. I imagine a possession where you have a dive and kick PG or Zion driving in the paint with Hawk, Tyler and Trey and shite Herb too, waiting for the kickout pass. A defense would not be able to help off anyone on the court.
If Tyler can be physical in the paint and hold his own, then you have a future starter or quality 6th man similar to Naz Reid.
The more I watch his film, the more I'm sold on drafting him for the upside he presents at the 21 draft spot, if he's still somehow available. Besides Holland, Smith stood out consistently on the Ignite and was the suprise of the GLeague, this past season.
Besides, Devin Carter (Day 1 contributor) or Bub Carrollton (kid got the goods), both of whom could play backup PG and develop to supplant Jose eventually, I'm most intrigued as to what Tyler Smith will develop into more than Ware, Edey or Holmes and I see a team taking Smith way earlier than projected. I saw a mock draft with the Bulls taking him at 11 and I feel he is rising up other teams' draft boards once you envision his ability to spread the floor and hit shots.
Draft comp: Trey Murphy, Robert Horry,
What yall think?

He measured 6'9 barefoot at the combine. He is a major project, but there is a chance that he will be there at 21 when we pick.
I do not think he would play at all for us next season. Not a good rebounder or shot blocker. More of a 3/4 tweener with some range as a shooter. I'd prefer someone with more natural girth and power to be a 4/5 project. A bigger version of Liddell.

1 Daron Holmes
2 kelel Ware
3 any guy that was projected higher but dropped (Isaiah Collier, Devin Carter, etc.)
4 Tyler Smith
5 Zach Edey (hesitant but wouldn’t be mad)

Daron Holmes is my pick if he’s there because I’ve seen him multiple times box out for a rebound even tho he’s got the physical advantage most of the time, grab rebounds and take the ball up the floor and start a fastbreak like he’s a guard. He’s also not a liability on offense or defense and we do well with slightly older players as draft picks. Also shot 38% from 3. At the very least he would be your backup/small ball 5 (Larry’s replacement) which is valuable in todays game

Another Trey Murphy sounds appealing to me, but I'm not sure how well we would be able to develop a raw G League guy with the current structure of our team.

Sounds like a gross mischaracterization to me. I appreciate what the OP is aiming at, and he gave a relatively thorough analysis, we need more posts like that here as the draft approaches, but that's a click bait headline if I ever saw one. Trey Murphy was a top 2 shooter in the draft, Smith sounds like an average shooter who's main comp with Trey is his size and the deep range.

He is the guy I want the pels to draft. I think we’ve been missing a backup 4 the past few years.
He has legit size. 6’10.5 with shoes, a 7’1 wingspan and 225 lbs. he can also shoot the shite out of the ball. He’s raw in other areas but size and shooting are the most desirable traits in today’s NBA and he has both.
Draft the size and shooting and bet that you can develop the rebounding and defense. I think he can be a bigger PJ Washington and even play some small ball 5

Dude is 19 years old and skipped the college route. He played a key role on a G League squad along with 3 other players that will get drafted, all in the 1st round. A few players have decided this route over the past few years since it's inception and have been drafted and are successful in the League. He's not as raw as you would presume. Learn how to play solid defense and he's a solid contributor.

I would add Nikola Topic to this list.
With his ACL injury and his shorter than anticipated wingspan it’s starting to be reported he’s likely to drop out of the lottery completely. If that’s the case we have to see what it will cost to move up and grab him, best pass first PG to come out in years.

Man Tyler better than Liddell... Lidell won't sniff the court for the Pels ever. It's unfortunate that his opportunity to make an impression and hit the floor running was interrupted by injury. He was already an iffy prospect to me as far a meaningful pro contribution. I didn't see it happening even without the injury. Too small to really be effective at his position.
Tyler is 6'10, 6'11 with shoes. And he has a transferable skill to utilize day 1, his shooting. Now saying his shooting was Trey like was a tad bit hyperbolic, but the comparison is there.
If he focuses on rebounding and defense, he has the tools and ability to be a solid bench option if nothing else.
At 21, idk but most, if not all of my would be targets are off the board according to projections and where I have them. The only reason Tyler would be still available is he didn't shoot particularly well on the day of the combine. It happens. But that doesn't supplant what I have seen over the year. He a project but he not a project. Lol. I'm all in on Tyler. I'd be surprised if he doesn't stick if he works hard at the game.

Nikola Topic??? Sheesh...
Man, he don't do it for me at all. I don't get the hype. He's not even close to what Giddy was coming out... Not dynamic enough for me personally and with the injury, he's young, but it's not like he can afford to lose the little athletic ability he has. Plus, he can't shoot for shite right now. And his lateral movement is non existent, no wiggle to his game to get defenders off balance. The only thing going for him is he's 6'6 at point, but he doesn't have exceptional handles, more of a straight line driver to the goal... And as far as his court vision, in all his highlights, I did not see one pass that was just instinctual for a PG.
I see him flaming out after that 1st contract, for real. Hard pass.

I see Topic maxing out at Lonzo, very good defender that can run an offense. Never going to be an all star player, never going to be a max player, but will end up as a steady pass first guy that if his shot develops will be a very good PG. Taking him post lottery will be worth it, he can’t really be a bust if he doesn’t pan out, but could end up being a huge boom.

Brmark... What center you actually get excited for in this draft? I don't even like Clingman tbh and they got him Top 5. Very, very weak big man draft. All time weak. Every prospect has serious flags and the higher the projection, the more I don't like the big being considered and talked about.
If the Pels are looking for an athletic big that can spread the floor to make life easier for Zion, IN THE DRAFT, the only one I can see flourishing is Tyler Smith after a year or 2.
I could be wrong but dude will be more valuable than all the other bigs picked ahead of him, when it comes to that 2nd contract.
He avg 5 rebounds playing on 22 minutes on avg. Per 36 that jumps to about 7.5-8 a game. Mind you, I see him coming off the bench with a legit center starting or subbing for Zion like Trey would do bc Willie being Willie.

Lonzo was legit and had a few undeniable traits to start with. His passing was exceptional and he had legit athleticism that popped off the screen.
I will go back and watch Topic again but man, I see bust all day. Easily. If Spurs take him and Dilingham as some mock drafts foolishly project, Dillingham will be the future starter at Point. Especially now.

I'm with Holmes as well. Has a high motor and that is something that always translates. He's the guy I've wanted out of all the availalbe 5's from the get go.

Man just watching Topic highlights, instantly you notice the EXTREME lack of NBA talent that he's going against. His drives are ALL below the rim finishes. He would get alot of those shots blocked on ball or by helpside defense, easily I might add. Can't shoot and has a push shot that needs alot of refinement, hence 30% from 3pt on the season and that's with NO one usually near him when shooting.
I watched more of Topic and man Bronny better than this dude. Epic fail. Don't even get me started on how he can't guard NBA level talent.
Recognize the competition he is facing or lack thereof, this dude is so Div.-II or NAIA caliber. Lol. shite funny af that he getting Top 5 mentions. He won't be picked until 22 or later, book it.

While speaking on it, Darron Holmes don't really do it for me either. Is he a key piece on a championship contender off the bench??? Naaahhh. Cmon man. Dude will be a journeyman at best. I'm passing on him too!
