Why Not Steal Second?

I'll preface this post by admitting I barely watched any regular season games.
In the 8th inning after Travinski reached base, there seemed to be no attempt to steal 2nd. The game was tied and there was one out. It was lefty pitcher vs lefty batter, and if I recall the pitcher was pitching low and away.
Steal second. Deep fly ball advances the runner to 3rd. Now they're ina situation where a base hit or error scores a run.
So, why was there no attempt at stealing 2nd? Is the UNC catcher that good at throwing out runners? Is the lefty pitcher too scary to run on? Does LSU just not steal bases? It didn't make much sense to me knowing the situation.

Jay isn't one to steal bases and especially if a player like Trav is on base.

Stealing on a lefty? Thats no gimme, which is what we need that to be to steal. And the game wasnt tied in the 8th

Trav was pulled for a pinch runner. Which made the situation even more baffling to me. If a player is pulled for a pinch runner at 1st with the score tied, I'm thinking stealing 2nd is the primary goal.

Sorry, thanks for the correction. This happened in the bottom of the 9th instead of the 8th.

The primary goal is scoring the run on a hit, which travinski may not do if youve seen him.

Not really. Coach could be thinking about going 1st to 3rd on a single or scoring from 2nd, provided he made it that far. Bingham was the pinch runner. He had two steals all year and a lefty was in the mound. Not good odds.

Bingham pinch ran for Travinski.

And yet stealing off a lefty, and stealing in general against hugh level teams is tough. There is reason most teams dont steal much anymore

I guess this helps answer part of my question. Bingham being 2 for 5 on stolen base attempts isn't great, and I agree the lefty pitcher increases the chance of being picked off. However, there were multiple pitches down and to the left of the catcher.
It seemed to me the odds of winning increased if Bingham steals 2nd, and conditions were there for a successful attempt. Game was tied, LSU was the home team. It wouldn't have been the worst decision Coach Jay would have made in the game.

Couldn’t understand why not Kling there

I agree especially since UNC had a back-up in at catcher since they PH for the freshman catcher earlier in the game.

It wasn't that he should have stolen 2nd, but if Bingham would have read the ball in the dirt he could have advanced on the ball the catcher dropped. A good PR should have been on 2nd

It was lefty pitcher vs lefty batter
There’s one reason

Counter: It's a tied game in the bottom of the 9th with one out and a pinch runner on 1st. Lefty pitcher is throwing down away to a lefty batter with a backup catcher behind the plate.
Gotta try something. Going 1st to 3rd still requires two hits to win the game. Stealing 2nd gets a RISP. Be aggressive.

This! Analytical coaching does not lend itself to risky play. Potential outs are too precious

Bingham was 2-5 on the year stolen bases this year, you can't risk it in that situation, it's just not LSU's game.

What if Dave Roberts would have been scared to make the last out of the American League Championship Series at second base?
