Home espresso machines worth it?

To start in not even a huge coffee guy but for some reason I've looked as Nespresso machines when I see them on sale. Last week I found a L'or Barista at Dirt Cheap for $40. I checked out and it has never been used so I pulled the trigger. It came with 30 pods to test it out and uses L'or, Nespresso and Starbucks pods. Anyone use any of these machines and how do they rate? Tia

The classic nespresso is my fav(uses super high pressure). Pods are also cheaper. Drawback is the biggest cup it’ll make is like 3oz for the lungo.
The newer nespresso viturro works more like a coffee maker plus some extra shaking but it’ll make almost any kind of coffee. Pods have bar codes to tell the machine how to make it.
We use both but if you just want espresso, then go with the older model because it does a better job of that.

Nespresso pods are way better than Keurig. I wouldn’t try to go cheap on the pods but you don’t have to go expensive. I would stick with Nespresso brand.

My wife has a Breville, uses it every day. I'm not a coffee person so I can't tell you how good it is, but she loves it. My MIL has the same one, she even brings it on vacation so she doesn't have to drink shitty drip coffee at the beach house/condo. People who have them, and use them regularly, love them.

Bought a Breville about 6 months ago after having a Keurig for years. Didn’t know what I was missing. What an upgrade!

In the coffee world, Nespresso isn’t “real” espresso. It’s good for a daily cup though, just not as good as what you’d get a local specialty shop or from something like a Breville. Pods ain’t cheap either.

Nespresso real enough to me. I love it.

I use a Breville most of the time. Cometeer is a great option if you don’t want to pull shots yourself.
Bean quality matters far more than machine

I got one of the Phillips coffee/espresso all in one machines and I’m very happy with it.

Does your boyfriend enjoy espresso as well?

I have the delonghi dinamica+ and it's life changing.
I have had no desire to hit a coffee shop since I plugged it in and I would grab a coffee drink out at least 1-2x a week.
I love that thing even though I haven't gone crazy tweaking the puck weight and grind. Its a consistently perfect espresso or doppio (which is my favorite) and I've also quit adding cream. It's so smooth I don't have to add a thing to it.

Espresso/Coffee is a rabbit hole that never ends. It's a pretty fun hobby. It's also pretty efficient in that for a little bit of effort/money, you can get much better results. Of course that diminishes with more money and effort, but it's not unusual to see serious enthusiasts have 8-10k rigs (including grinder).

Starbucks is complete crap.
Love my Nespresso machine and bought a mini that I take with me to condos when traveling.
Recently had a lavazza espresso while in the waiting room at my daughter’s orthodontist appointment. It was unbelievable!

I have a gut feeling that your orthodontist bills are higher than they need to be.

Probably. Although they gave me a family discount as there are 3 of us with braces at the same time.
