We called it warball and used a volleyball instead of one of those rubber balls. If you threw the ball above the bleachers (around 8 or 9 feet) or if the other team caught your ball then the thrower was out. You could aim at the head but it was more likely to be caught so the smart players usually went for the knees.

I wasn't the hardest thrower but I could dodge and catch so I did alright.

We called it WarBall too, and it was great fun. The coaches would sometimes call a free-for-all, in which there were no boundary lines. and scores would be settled. Picking on one kid during a free-for-all is what ended the game when I was in the 9th grade.

I was masterful at dodging dodgeballs when I was a kid.

Man, childhood was fun as shite.

We played dodgeball, kickball, and red rover, and chase a ton at recess in elementary school.

I bet this guy can dodge a wrench.

We did army ball. You get hit you drop where you are. If a teammate can drag you back to the wall without getting hit you come back to life. Game ended when one team had no live players.

I can still hear the ping of a hit.

Oh that brings back memories. Once, our coach tried to eliminate face-hits. So he made a rule that if a player was hit in the face with a ball, then the thrower is then automatically eliminated.

Thing is, that didn't last long. All of the boys wisened up and realized that taking a shot to the face is alot easier than catching the ball. So, naturally we started going out of the way to get hit in the face. Coach had to go back to the old rules, because he realized that players going out of the way to purposely get hit is like totally antithetical to the point of dodgeball.
