It’s quite excellent from the moments of the opening sequence, which is excellent.

It’s going to be hard but highly recommend watching the first two seasons and then pretending like the rest don’t exist

I wouldn’t go beyond season 3. Season 4 at the absolute most.

First 2 seasons are excellent. It went off the rails after that. I didn’t finish the series after Spacey was written off after he got gay MeToo’d.

You know the show is impressive when it makes the fight over an education bill exciting.

Not many shows can blow it as bad as Game of Thrones, but this one blows it pretty bad in the later seasons.

Maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad had the Secretary not fallen down the stairs.

Villains are sometimes more frightening when you try to imagine what they would do with more power than what they actually do.

Hannibal Lecter is more interesting locked up in a cell. Jaws is scarier beneath the water. Ledger's Joker and (coincidentally) Spacey's John Doe are better with no backstory. Similarly, Frank Underwood is more menacing in his ascension to the presidency than actually being president. Should have ended with him banging on the Resolute Desk at the end of Season 2 (I think).

ETA: I watched all but the last season and enjoyed it overall. I checked out when Spacey got the boot.

This used to be my favorite show. I was obsessed with it. I watched every season, but I agree it goes downhill big time toward the end.

Binged it with my wife but we stopped 2 episodes into the last season. It’s that awful

That’s a good angle.

Also I probably could have been more judicious in my first reply - yeah it’s not very excellent further past S2-3.

Top 5 show on Netflix in my opinion....trust me the government actually does what goes down in that show in real life

It was one of the very first shows that people binged. First two seasons were some of the most entertaining tv of all time.

I think residents of the DC area voted it the most realistic political show several years in a row (I’ll see if I can go find it).

And to the post above this one’s point, I do recall this was one of the first big hits produced by Netflix itself.

This version is taken from a british tv show from the 90s. I recommend watching the british show as well. A lot of similar plot lines and a nasty central character.
