I'd suggest reading through this thread.
Then remembering a jury is 12 people.
Then trying to figure out how you are going to get 12 people to convict someone with the census in this thread.
But you do you.
ETA: See, the issue at hand is you need 12/12 people on a jury to agree with your point.
I need 1/12 to agree with me.
Who do you suppose has a better chance?

You're relying on lying to get away with murder.

This statement is indicative of your lack of complex thinking. You are looking at the situation through YOUR lens and assuming we are too.
Yes i most certainly am, and i understand other situations are different.

I get that the actions of the airman may not have been ideal when you have full awareness of what was going on outside the door but the calculus is different when this is your view of the situation:
and i can understand that completely.
It still doesn't change the fact that he knew it was the cops announcing themselves, and still chose to answer the door that way. Still shouldnt' be a death sentence, but it's extremely dumb.

What's still confusing to you about that?

Who lied? If someone answers the door and points a gun at me, damn right I'm feeling my life is threatened.
I have 0 doubt the cop felt his life was threatened.
I am not suggesting the cop was right. He was a law enforcement officer and should have done better.
I am not.

The cop violated his rights. I'm sure the cop will be fired. The cop probably deserves a limited amount of jail time. But how much? I mean 12 months? More than a year seems ridiculous this wasn't a violent criminal and likely won't happen again.
Am I living in Crazy Town right now?? This dude MURDERED someone. And it’s on camera. And you think anything more than a year in jail is ridiculous?
Murder is a violent crime. Tax fraud will get you 4 years and no one stops to blink an eye. But if a cop murders you, it’s not a violent crime and let’s just let him off with a slap on the wrist? This shite is just going to keep happening if we constantly make excuses for them when it happens.

It was a hypothetical you are spinning out of control to attempt and make an idiotic point.
Watch the video if you want to know why answering the door with a gun is dumb.
I'm sorry it all happened like it did.
The cop is losing his job. Likely going to jail. His life is changed forever.
He was reporting to a call for domestic violence. Someone answered the door with a gun. He fricked up. But part of my can sympathize because that's a shitty job and I wouldn't want it. Really no one wants that job.

It was entirely irrelevant. You're trying to bridge the gap between you being flat wrong and you making a reasonable decision.
He didn't point his weapon at anyone.
You lied. You got called out. It happens.

It's realistic in a world where we actually have rights, and we place value on those rights.
If there's any blame at all assigned to this guy, we don't really have rights. You may be OK with that to win some point on the internet. I am not.
I get what you are tyring to say, but it's not realistic in any world. Guns escalate situations. You have to understand that as a gun owner and accept the consequences when you pull your gun out, even when you haven't done anything wrong. That's simply the consequences of presenting a gun into any situation. If you're cool with trying to prove a point of legality with your gun in stupid situations, be my guest. You're just as dumb as the idiot bike rider trying to prove his point to the car.
Go ahead and answer your door every single time for the rest of your life with your gun in hand legally. You'll eventually come across someone who doesn't like it and pulls their gun out, legally. Then what? We wait to see who "draws" first and they are the murderer who's left alive?

The original question was try that with anyone else other than police.
quote:Which is an astoundingly stupid thing to believe. This shouldn't be hard to understand: It'll be extremely easy to prove you did something wrong. You killed a man in his own home. You're going to jail.
I bring a package to my neighbor and he answers the door with a gun and I shoot him with my CC, good luck proving I did anything wrong.
quote:And he should go to jail, just like you would for shooting an innocent, free citizen and USAF Airman who's standing in his own hallway holding a gun pointed at the ground.
Cop screwed up.
quote:Assuming the guy knew it was the cops by the time he opened the door, assuming he's not confused and shocked and not at all concerned that it was actually the cops, then I agree, it's not smart to do. It's never a good idea. It's also not a good idea to murder a citizen who has done nothing wrong. This cop did everything wrong. He's an idiot. He can't be in society anymore.
But don't answer the door with a gun and expect not to get shot.
And you're not a cop. I'll answer my door any way I damn well feel like, and if you think that gives you the right to come on my property and kill me, then your dumbass is going to jail, and rightfully so: You obviously don't have sense enough to be a member of society. You sound like an autistic lunatic with this argument you're trying to make.

It's realistic in the world I want to live in. You can argue outcomes all you want. "It happened" isn't the same as "it was right."

SO you want to live in a world where it's acceptable for you to answer your door every single time with your gun in your hand and nothing happens to you ever?
Again, tell me what happens when the person at your door decides to pull their gun out simply b/c you have one now. It's his right to do so as well.
So now what?
Posted on 5/10/24 at 12:55 pm to TeddyPadillac
Maybe he just wants to live in a world where he isn’t murdered by the government just for living his life and not doing anything wrong?

It is getting to the point that police need to have their pistols removed and keep a rifle in the car.

When a cop announces himself no it's not wise to open the door with a gun in your hand even if it is your right. It immediately escalates the situation and you get what you get as a result. If you got pulled over and brandished a gun even if legally allowed to do so do you not think that unwise ? I get the wanting to draw a line in the sand over your rights but a gun is a tool designed to kill and even if within your rights can and most likely will be taken as a threat.
"Stop making sense"
David Byrne, 1984.
Anyone who doesn't get this is too fricking stupid to get out of the rain, and I mean obscenely stupid. And this is coming from a guy who owns guns meant for self defense and has a concealed carry permit.
What sort of a-hole answers his door at 430 in the afternoon, knowing there's a cop on the other side, with a fricking gun in his hand? Who the frick does this shite? Goddamn, the absolute stupidity of it. It's utterly shocking.
