Definitely something a millennial/zoomer came up with.

How old are you when you did these

Define "comfortably".
It's in the bottom right of the graphic:
quote:
Comfortable was defined as the annual income required to cover a 50/30/20 budget, allocating 50% of earnings to necessities, 30% to discretionary spending, and 20% to savings.

This list is complete bullshite. $194K annually to live comfortably in Alabama?!?

As a family of four seems right
Comfortably to me would mean my children are going to a school where they won’t be murdered. That seems like comfort. So in most places in Louisiana that means private school
I think they are using the term comfort as money not being a stress point while allowing for savings and pleasures.

Well, the last vehicle I bought was in 2016. A used, fleet truck, bare bones Tundra. Still driving it with 208,000 miles. Younger generation has to have that $100,000 GMC AT4
YouTube can teach you anything you want to know. The second I paid $100 for an oil change, I learned to do it myself.
If I want fast food…I don’t pay double to have it delivered to my door. Get off your arse and go get it.
Learn to cook!
I see so many people around me paying for yard services, house cleaning, etc. Do that shite yourself and have some pride in your work!

quote:youre right. i forget how much money is in that area. I was in olathe/overland park a couple weeks ago and its so dang nice in that area.
It is all because of Johnson County. It is one of the richest counties in the country. Get outside of the KC metro and kansas gets a LOT cheaper.

That same truck you bought in 16 is likely a 40k truck now minimum.
That same house you bought for 150k is now a 500k house
These kids have to work so much to afford anything.

So why live in Louisiana???? Why are people so f’ing scared to move???

in 2021, the median home income in the state of Louisiana was about $53,600

I was curious so I went see the reddit thread and even most of the commenters in the thread are saying these numbers don't make any sense and are bullshite and was probably made by someone trying to push an agenda.

It’s all on how you define comfort
Comfort is completely self defined. If the map was “Income needed to remain in good health and get by” it would be bullshite

All false. That same truck today (looked a couple weeks ago and found a couple similar options) is around $21,000. And nobody NEEDS a truck.
That $150,000 house 20 years ago is around $200,000 now. Nobody NEEDS to live in the heart of a top 10 city.
Live where you can afford and EARN your way to where you want to be.

And in no way are salaries keeping up with that.

Whoever makes these things are idiots. Jesus.

The people in these situations will always be near big shithole cities. Current economy sucks arse but you can live a great life for a lot less than that. And most people in America are nowhere near a 200k household income. Most also have tons of bullshite debt and that only increases with money.
