what build up? that's not at all what is happening when banging it helps
Usually its knocking the solenoid loose because it is weak and does not have quite enough umph to close completely....vibrating it with a hammer can make it turn loose. Sometimes it the starter being weak and not being able to start turning...again, vibrating it with a hammer will usually free it up enough to turn. SO will connecting another running car in series with jumper cables or even a wire coat hanger....doubling the voltage will usually do the same thing as womping it with a hammer. One word of caution if using a coat hanger...it will get cherry red in seconds. One can imagine how I know this...

Don't blame Joe. You overpaid.

Dude's starter didnt make it 7 years, dont believe Amazon was the problem.
Even the AutoZone trash will fail.
Changed an alternator last May on the Odyssey, needed to replace it again in late January.
Luckily AutoZone stood by their warranty and swapped it out or it would be another 300 dollars.

I have used mostly Amazon parts for years. Look up the brand your getting and you'll be fine.
Every ac compressor, alternator and starter I've changed has been from Amazon.
A lot of times oem isn't much better. Most oem parts are actually rebranded third party.

Oh and thanks Nissan for putting the damn thing buried in the middle of the motor
Purposefully wants you to bring in it for service, thats why

In engineering we use the Goodman Diagram for that.
Had to look that up.

Oh and thanks Nissan for putting the damn thing buried in the middle of the motor necessitating the removal of half of it to get to the starter. WTH.
They do this intentionally. I have a 2016 GMC Acadia Denali that needed to go in for something and they found a leak in a power steering hose.
$40 for the replacement hose
$1200 in labor because they have to pull the entire fricking engine out of the bay in order to change it.
frick modern day automotive manufacturers.

Any designer/engineer whether it be automotive or aviation would prefer to climb over a pile of naked hot women to frick a mechanic...truth.

Do people not shop around for parts? Autozone is literally the worst place you could go. Damn near any starter you can get online for 100 or less.
I've bought several of the (dB electrical) starters and alternators online for less than 100 bucks and they worked just fine.

I've encountered this twice. Both times I just took the starter itself apart to get it out. Took apart the new one...and then reassembled it in place. It's way easier that way if it's an option

Correct, I was responding to the poster that quoted an Amazon part for much cheaper.
I was just pointing out Amazon's trash parts.
Yeah I supposedly bought a set of OEM TPMS sensors on Amazon. All 4 failed within a year. Pisses me off every time I see that light on my dash.
I replaced them when I did tires and im not willing to have the sensors replaced due to having to break seal on tires.
Screw Amazon.

I remember when the worst thing in the world was replacing the #8 plug on this. (Only a bitch with A/C)
