This is what I think Griff needs to have a handle on before he does anything else this summer. Shamit mentioned it in a review of Willie today.

Its known Borrego wants another shot at head coach but if the head coach and star player aren’t listening to him, there is no reason for him to stay here as an assistant.

Speaking of firing Willie, Shamit also mentioned he has 2 years left on his deal, which I don't think I had seen reported about the secret extension yet.

Hopefully it’s a two year extension with the second being an option for the team. I can’t up with two more years of this bullshite.

He will get his shot next season I bet. Either Willie gets fired pretty early in the season, or Ingram is traded this offseason and Willie is forced to buy in to Borrego ball since he won’t have anyone left on the roster to push back against it.

Willie/BI not buying into Borrego’s offense
Man, I wonder who in Pels Talk has been saying this the entire season that we completely went away from Borrego ball and appeased and played the offense BI wanted almost the entire season...

2 dudes had a couple of the bigger meltdowns you'll see on here because I pointed that out.

I’d think that Willie gets a chance to see what he can do with whatever the reconstituted team looks like.

If it looks like shite to start the season, he will be gone.

This sounds to me like when JB was first brought in Willie was on board with how JB wanted to run the offense until Ingram started pouting about it, then Willie took the players side.
Damn, Soggy and a couple of others haven't read any of my posts all season.

I'm hurt, man!!

I see ATL got me though!!

I still think back to the two Mavericks game one where Green coached vs the IST game where Borrego coached and it's crazy how different the two games were.

It's sad when I went back and looked at the highlights and saw how much Green neutered Hawkins in the second half of the season. It's insane that he could put a weapon like that on the shelf and parked him on the perimeter when he's in the game and yanked him as soon as he misses a shot or two. fricking nuts how good Hawkins was when he had the freedom to move all over the court.

This is an interesting clip from Chaz at pro pels talk in regards to Willie Green.
Could be accurate, but can never take that guy seriously.

I agree like I said take a grain of salt with what he says. But I also don’t think he would just blatantly lie like that either. I mean hes giving specific situations that occurred.

Also, who remembers the Zion "taking a back seat" quote that eventually led to the emphasis team meeting.

Anyone ever wonder why he said that...

LINK

He said that because it was assumed he was the focal point of the offense coming into the season, and very early in the season, BI didn't like it and wanted things his way and to be the main guy, and Willie basically said, "ok BI, we'll do it your way and abandon our team's plan"

Willie deserves his fair share of responsibility for this mess but man this a lot on David Griffin too. Centering this whole organization around BI basically has set us back a couple years. If there is a silver lining here, its that they’re going to move on from BI but you have to wonder about wasting so much time trying to make BI something hes not.

I was there all season also saying the offense we were running was not Borrego ball.

Didn’t wanna specifically pin it on BI tho

I know all of us are under the assumption Willie will be back next season but is there a chance when Willie and Griff sit down that Willie could still be fired?

I remember SVG firing caught people off guard and it happened like sometime in June.

There’s definitely still a chance he could be fired or moved into the front office

This might be the best move and save the organization face for firing another coach. Problem is I doubt Willie agrees to this.

I always thought that the Willie potentially to the Front Office rumor seemed weird and out of nowhere until we found out that they had secretly extended him. It might be easier for Griff to hide Willie's contract in the Front Office budget than sell 2nds he no longer has to cover it on the balance sheet like he did with Stan. So I do think Willie to the Front Office could happen, but it also seems like if you tweak a few things to help Willie get out of his own way, a lot of the complaints might go away. If Griff is able to make the right moves that protect Willie from himself, I think he leaves him in place.
