That being said- Willie coached horribly in this series. I didn’t see one single adjustment to help win this series.
Did you not see the 3.5 minutes of Hawkins in game 4?
Is that not good enough adjustment for you?
Yeah, Willie’s coaching was abysmal in that series with zero adjustments, have to wonder if it was by design

Willie runs a screen, ball gets to BI...ok now what? You still got Dort on you. You've shown zero ability to score on him, so what are you going to do now?
Oh, you also need help getting Dort off of you when you have the ball, how about a screen? But wait, you get a screen and refuse to attack and play the BI slow motion basketball so the screen becomes useless because you go around it, stop, and Dort just follows you until he's back into position to guard you.
No one was going to put the ball in the basket for you. You're on a max contract. Sure there are ways to make things easier here and there, but sometimes a player of this caliber getting paid that much has to get shite done by yourself, and you have to own it when you don't.
You know i love to argue, but ain't nothing there to argue against.

one thing he refuses to do even though he’s shown to be a 40% shooter from 3 on a high volume.
He just will not take a 3 unless he is wide open for whatever reason.

You have to wonder if SVG is just watching all this unfold somewhere and just laughing.

Even then he wont. He’ll move inside to take a contested middie. He did it several times throughout the season and in playoffs.

Everytime Willie talks about the style of play the coaching staff wants he always talks about the .5 second offense, shooting 40 3’s a game and pace.
Willie says that and then plays lineups with 1 shooter for the vast majority of the game. If he really wanted to shoot 40 3s then he would have been playing Hawk and Ryan.

I will say Bi has been very bad toward the end of the year but on the flip side Willie is pretty terrible at coming up with ways at getting guys open looks. Whether it’s our stars usually needing to work hard for points or never running plays to get our shooters easier looks.

To add on to all this, since the end of the season Pelicans twitter feed has been a train of Zion tweets
Not a peep about Ingram

To make it worse he also wont do anything off ball to get himself open for a 3.

BI seemed to be "surprised" by playoff basketball. The physicality frustrated him and he did not change his game. He continued to play ISO against a good defender and not take the open shots when he had them. He consistently dribbled into the lane and met resistance.

I've said it before many times, although I don't think many of you care.
BI isnt' someone who shoots the ball quickly when he catches it. He has to step into his shot for some reason. Rarely do you ever see him catch and shoot without moving his feet. He always steps into it. He's usually already stepping into the pass if he's going to shoot it. I don't know why he has to do this, but he does almost every single time on a C&S 3, and it gives the defender plenty of time to challenge his shot.
watch how he shoots. this is from the Toronto game when he hit 8 3's. The first one he has to step into the pass to take the shot.

and i'm not using that as an excuse to not shoot more 3's, b/c even with his slower process of shooting 3's, he should still take more of them on a nightly basis than he has been.

Yup that was after Game 1. Meaning at some point during Game 2- BI wasn’t buying it. Again agree BI should have played better and done a lot of things all the above posters said.
To me that still doesn’t excuse Willie’s coaching in that series. If BI isn’t doing what you asked- what’s your next adjustment to help you win a game? Willie had no answers. Maybe run some other guys out that can score, try putting the ball in Treys hands or ride JV longer. Willie did nothing but said frick it we’ll get swept.

This is an interesting clip from Chaz at pro pels talk in regards to Willie Green. Now hes a bit always on the negative side so take what he says with a grain of salt. But supposedly talks about Willie and CJ getting into it, Willie/BI not buying into Borrego’s offense and other stuff. I don’t know why but I can see CJ laughing at a play Willie drew up lol

BI could have shot as many 3s as he wanted in the series. OKC wasn't aggressively trying to defend him behind the arc. He took a total of 8 threes in 4 games. Plenty of opportunities to shoot with space from Dort.

saw that. all parties look bad in that situation.

frick it. Get rid of them both. I’d rather suck with another coach than deal with these two arse clowns another year.

I was coming to post this.
This sounds to me like when JB was first brought in Willie was on board with how JB wanted to run the offense until Ingram started pouting about it, then Willie took the players side.
The plays drawn up and CJ laughing I can believe, you have a brilliant offensive mastermind right there and instead you side with the player that wants to play the way that’s not best suited for your team.
The more I think about it the more it seems JB was a forced hire by Griff on Willie, and Willie deciding not to listen to JB and still run what Ingram wanted may have put the nail in Ingram’s coffin. We all know after SVG Griff was all in on Point Zion

So essentially, they brought James in to modernize the offense and BI and Willie want to run a 90s style outdated offense and wouldn’t listen to him. More proof that both Willie and BI need to GTFO.

Willie/BI not buying into Borrego’s offense and other stuff.
This is what I think Griff needs to have a handle on before he does anything else this summer. Shamit mentioned it in a review of Willie today.
quote:
The Borrego situation is noteworthy. After months of media chatter and praise about Borrego’s offensive system, the Pelicans ditched most of it just a few months into the season. It’s unclear what happened between the two coaches, but the decision was an active one, and Borrego’s influence lessened over time. Many were excited when Zion shared Borrego had texted him and Brandon to work on actions after practice. For a handful of games, fans were treated to some two man game between the two stars. This too rapidly disappeared.
The org has supplied Green with resources on the staff and added shooters to his roster. Green has yet to utilize the tools he has been given to their fullest potential. My understanding is that Green has two more years left on his deal. This would mean there should be plenty of job security for Green to embrace true changes.

shel has brought this up here many times, mostly tied to BI killing the offense. That is what Griff needs to know. Did Willie deferring to BI let BI kill the offense, and moving BI should let a good offensive scheme happen, or did Willie not like the scheme either? If it's a Willie problem, you either need to fire him or get an assistant with a scheme he will support. It's the same with the centers. The get him centers he's comfortable with and he shouldn't overplay Larry.
Speaking of firing Willie, Shamit also mentioned he has 2 years left on his deal, which I don't think I had seen reported about the secret extension yet.
