We had a doctor as a neighbor. He had a much higher standard for stitches for a neighborhood kid than for a kid in his office.
There would have to be exposed or broken bone for him to get worked up about something.
“Nah, put a bandaid on it and quit complaining.”

My mom is a nurse practitioner. Uncle was a doctor. Was/still is pretty damn sweet.

It's amazing how different peoples relationships can be with a PCP if they see them when they're healthy and just call them when they're not.

Or a 1st cousin or a old friend that is a dentist.

I can only imagine how luxurious it is if you fall ill and have someone that can treat you on the spot. No waiting rooms, forms to fill out, etc.
You think that but if your mom was a nurse you probably wouldn’t know your dad very well

My dad was a country doctor - literally could do it all - deliver babies, take out your gallbladder or appendix, you name it, but my siblings and I used to joke that to get medical attention in our house you had to have an open arterial bleeder and it had to be above the neck.
My older brother loves to tell the story of when he was in college, he called home and told my dad he had the worst belly pain of his life. Dad told him to drive on home, when he got there he had him lie down at the foot of the bed and the next morning they went to he hospital and he took his appendix out.
We poked fun about that with each other, but truth is we never had trouble getting seen quickly when we needed attention, either by my Dad, one of his partners or colleagues if need be.
My wife (no pics, also a physician) and I have treated our kids for minor stuff - more her than me when they were younger as she is a pedi - and of course its always been easy to get them in to see doctors outside either of our specialties when needed which has been nice.

Yes but the patients coming to home in small town was ridiculously obnoxious
