I believe. While Orleans Parish and the City of New Orleans are technically governed the same, there are no unincorporated areas.

Trying to remember from 9th grade ethics, but Orleans Parish is 1 of 2 parishes in the State where there is only 1 city. They are "divided" into multiple neighborhoods, East, Lakeview, Algeris, Mic-City, Upton...., but it is all 1 city.

A better example would be one of the many cities (21) in Jefferson Parish that are not already incorporated (15 unincorporated).

Residents of Lakeview in NO has tried for this for years. I believe that their problem is that the mayor of NO must approve it. Obviously, no mayor will agree to giving away that large of a tax base.

But Lakeview is a part of New Orleans

So that's what they did and the opponents are screaming "muh racism" because otherwise is to admit their own failures.

Yep.

It is effectively EBRPSS, the legislative Black Caucus, and the city-parish continuing to double down on stupid, figuring the other side would concede.

Not so much.

Can the folks from St. George even vote for who becomes mayor of the city that previously controlled their future.

I've not heard the argument before but it seems like the desire for representation via voting would be sufficient to drive the incorporation.

Yes but they are voting for the Parish President part of the job.

They can because of the frickery involved with the incorporation.

Every city in the parish can vote for their own mayor but BR mayor is voted for by everybody because it is merged with parish president.

SWB is showing why a merger is a really bad idea because it means that she tends to frick the rest of the parish over in favor of NBR.

This is the only reason why there is any opposition, b/c the city officials don't want their theft to end.

There are still unincorporated areas of EBR. Lakeview would be an actual example of "breaking away".

we agree. I understand those differences.
