I’m learning what I’m supposed to be doing. These threads are always very helpful to me. Sometimes I get contradicting info, though
Of course it's too late for me now, since I'm closer to retirement than procreation, but I'm just imagining how great my life would have been struggling by in the boonies with a passel of kids. I can see that I really missed out by having only 2 children and a career. What was I thinking?

Have you tried not eating avocado toast?

This is my point exactly, although you made it sarcastically.
People/propagandists make it extreme. Have 14 kids and live barefoot in primitive cabin and do farm work all day, or have zero kids and live a life of leisure.
There's a middle ground that is extremely rewarding.

The fact is, we could do better as a country if our population was 250 mil or so. Stop illegal immigration and a lower birth rate is ideal.
Why do we need to grow the population? Our land size isn't growing proportionally. Many of our cities are already packed in like sardines and bitching about no housing

I'm not necessarily opposed to population decline, but our GDP and economy rely heavily on population growth. A decline would definitely cause issues.
And the whole overpopulation thing is a farce. The US isn't even close to being overpopulated.

Someone doesn't have to send kids to Baton Rouge private schools
you just have to adapt and send your kids to an "F" school.
you have to adapt and not get them tutoring because they can't learn because you sending them to an "F" school.
Nah, you have to move to the suburbs and commute 45 minutes like almost all of the middle/upper middle class in the rest of the country does.

Wow I have a family member that had this exact experience. The only reason I know you are not them is because they decided to buy babies. And they absolutely refer to it as that because it is just fees to attorneys and everyone else. The system is bad.

Curious when people say something like this what are they applying for nonstop that they cant get. Is it something youre qualified for? Like actually qualified for where your resume will stick out above the rest?
The vast majority of high paying jobs require a specific degree or certifications or so many years of experience working their way up. Even those are few and far between.
The people I have been around that say what you have been saying have a combo of these
-Resume has large gaps between employment
-Resume looks like youre at a new job every 6 months
-That resume is because you dont work well in the work place
-Resume of jobs that dont make a resume impressive.
-No specific degree that warrants a specific job
-If they have a college degree, its something basically useless. A college degree doesnt mean what it meant 30 years ago
-A know it all attitude and they think they should just have some 6 figure job
-Dont have many useful skills at all
-Not very good speakers and dont have the gift of gab or hold a room(or just a group of peoples attention)
And the people that have these will never admit. They will just bitch

The US is on the verge of over population to me.
I couldn't imagine living on an acre or less and neighbors all around.
And we don't need a huge workforce going forward with AI, robots, etc.

Daycare is $2800 a month for my two kids in Austin suburbs. The idea of raising a family on one income isn’t realistic for most

I hope they're thriving and wish them the best. It's a terrible system.

The foster system scarred them. They are great people and very qualified but told me they would never coparent with CFS again. Big lifestyle cuts were made to afford the children but it is such a blessing!

To be fair, my wife and I were DINKs for like 3 years and it was fricking awesome.

Much like with their affinity for tattoos, these youngish women will one day become old women who regret placing their own personal comforts over motherhood.
