Word on the town is they will push all in for CJ West, but even that does not look very likely.
Yikes.

You cannot compete for a NC with a below average interior DL.
You just can't
You just can't

This melt is gonna be funny

Greg Penn might miss 1,000 tackles this year on the never ending line of running backs running full speed through the gaping hole in the middle of the defensive line.
Oof.
Oof.

You also can’t compete for national championships if you break the bank on sub elite players every year.

Posted this earlier but couldn’t find the link. Absolute disaster of a situation. Kelly is a good coach but he has botched this particular facet badly.

every year.
Agreed
You build your roster with HS classes and supplement with the portal only when you have glaring holes, like this year.

THANK YOU.
I'm going to continue to repeat myself on this board until maybe, one day, the message gets through...
Panicking and paying guys is not a recipe for winning championships. Focus on the big 5 positions, and don't overpay for guys at other positions.
There's a difference between being ABLE to pay and being WILLING to pay for a particular player - and each school has to determine that player's worth based on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) - position, previous production, opportunity to develop / future production, years of eligibility, personal attributes, etc.
These valuations also have to be taken into context of the broader team e.g. are we really going to pay a DT more than we pay our top returning guys just because he came in through the portal? What kind of message does that send to the team + what does that do inside the locker room?
There's been a clear message sent by CBK + the staff that they're not willing to get into bidding wars and have a value they've set that they feel a player is worth.

I could care less that Miami is gonna throw the extra money to get him (worked great for A&M right)
But the fact they could have had the Indiana kid for a reasonable amount and let him walk...
Thats gonna sting.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes. We also don't know what kinda money is being offered. What I do know is LSU is more than capable of offering a competitive NIL package on top of having 2 of the best D-line coaches in the country, and having a roster with a guaranteed starting DT spot. Whatever these guys are getting offered it's not market value, but a monstrous overpay.
Kelly doesn't like to overpay for players, it creates resentment and turmoil in the lockeroom. You can't pay a middle of the SEC caliber Dlineman more than your star WR or all American LB.

Bad look for LSU this transfer cycle

I've said this multiple times, but Bo Davis will have a DT room consisting of Guillory, Paez, Makaneole, Lee, Washington, and possibly Breaux/McKinley at least serviceable as long as the injury bug doesn't hit. He's the best DL coach in the country and will get the best out of them. I still think we'll add at least 1 more guy. With much better coaching this year, I don't think this will be the glaring weakness some of you think it will be.

Big OOF for Kelly & Co.
Glaring issues, not addressed. Will enjoy hearing him spin this web of bullshite in his next presser.

Listing names doesn’t make them serviceable.

Hahaha Brian Kelly is showing himself repeatedly to be behind the times. I’m sure the RB will spin this as a positive for LSU somehow though.

These morons think LSU should be like the New York Yankees and just buy the best players available, just so they can beat their chest and say “their” team is the best. If that’s what it’s come to, my days as a fan of college sports are numbered.

Which is exactly why Texas and Texas A&M have been shite.
