Archdiocese of New Orleans under investigation for decades-long child sex trafficking coverup
NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana State Police are investigating the Archdiocese of New Orleans for possible child sex trafficking linked to widespread sexual abuse committed by priests over several decades, WWL reported from a criminal warrant Tuesday.
Before somebody says “why you bringing up old stuff”
The warrant comes after case's lead investigator testified under oath that his team found a decades-long pattern of "widespread sexual abuse," which included a victim investigators spoke with in June 2022 who "detailed being anally raped at an Archdiocese facility by Ex-Priest Father Lawrence Hecker, who served in 13 different congregations during his career."
It gets worse.
WWL reports that Rodrigue said those victims reported how priests allegedly passed victims around to each other, with priests giving victims gifts to give to another priest as a signal that the victim was a target for abuse. Other victims, detailed how they were brought to the New Orleans Seminary where they were told to swim naked in the pool and would be sexually assaulted or abused.
But this guys gonna pay for his crimes, right?
The search warrant's release comes as the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office works to prosecute Hecker, who admitted to a WWL-TV reporter that he molested a teen in the 1970s. A judge recently ruled that Hecker, 92, is mentally incompetent to stand trial on sexual abuse charges, WWL reports
So, please, tell me more about how today’s Roman Catholic Church is what Jesus had in mind in Matthew 16:18.
And, before someone says “but muh Protestants do bad stuff too” …yeah, they do. But we hold them accountable.
Those who molest children (or anyone, for that matter) should be castrated and locked away for the rest of their lives. I don’t understand how Rome can continue to turn a blind eye to this madness.

Far more sex abuse claims are from Protestants than Catholics. How exactly do you hold all of them accountable? You hide it under a rug, just like Catholics did. Protestants are the most judgmental and hypocritical religious group that exists. They are the liberals of religion.
Baptists and Methodists have been hit with sex abuse allegations into the thousands, just like the Catholic Church. Lutherans recently had a suit that resulted in $69 million in settlements and verdicts rendered against it. This stuff is rampant across many religions that often did nothing to prevent it, or worse.

Ms. Vasquez was forced to go in front of her church to ask for forgiveness, but she was told she could not mention who the father of the child was because it would harm the church. Her abuser went on to serve at another Southern Baptist churc

During her senior year of high school, Jules Woodson was sexually abused by her youth pastor. Though she disclosed her abuse to her local church, she was told not tell anyone and her youth pastor was allowed to leave to go to another church. He was given a going-away party. Almost 20 years later, in 2017, Ms. Woodson shared her story publicly. At that time, her abuser was a pastor in a Southern Baptist megachurch. He issued an “apology” in a live streamed church service calling the abuse a “sexual incident.” He received a standing ovation.

During the course of our investigation, an SBC pastor and his wife came forward to report that former SBC President Johnny Hunt (2008-2010), who was the immediate past SBC President at the time, had sexually assaulted the wife on July 25, 2010

In over a decade of collecting this information, which amounted to around 585 possible abusers at the time of the email correspondence, no action was ever taken to share these materials outside a small cadre of people, or to take action to address the possibility that these accused individuals might continue in ministry in SBC church

When the survivor’s mother hired a private investigator, an additional 168 potential victim was reportedly identified; that victim committed suicide and her body was found by the pastor.

While survivors’ reports of abuse were minimized or disregarded, it is notable that some high-level SBC leaders, by their words and actions, appeared more concerned with protecting abusers than with protecting victims, as discussed further below. These SBC leaders were never held accountable, and they continued to exercise influence within the SBC. This created a culture that intimidated survivors

2016 election of Steve Gaines as SBC President conveyed the message that a clergy sex abuse cover-up was considered “no big deal” in the SBC. As senior pastor at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, in 2006 Gaines had kept quiet for months after he learned about a staff minister’s prior sexual abuse of a child[b]

In 2011, a blogger began publicizing sexual abuse allegations against a music minister, John Langworthy. Mr. Langworthy subsequently made a public confession at his current church and was charged by police with sexually abusing several young boys at his former church in Mississippi. It was revealed that when Jack Graham, the 2002-2004 SBC President, was the pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church, in Plano, Texas, he had allowed Mr. Langworthy to be dismissed quietly in 1989 without reporting sexual abuse allegations to the police

“Today’s Roman Catholic Church….”??? 1970’s is hardly “today’s” Catholic Church

Exactly who is supposed to be the target of this?
Can't defrock him if he's no longer a priest.
This literally means he's so demented that he can't understand the charges against him or assist in his own defense. Unfortunately you can't proceed anyway. Due process still applies even when the alleged crimes are serious.

Which is hilarious, because the Catholics like to lay claim that they are the "oldest" church, when they're not, but this catholic is completely contradicting that premise entirely. Furthermore, it speaks as to why the catholic church is so laughably pitiful: bad as they hate to admit it, they bend and break to the ways of the modern world, as they always have. Just look at the leader of their church today for a modern example.
Meanwhile, the Orthodox church is unwavering. It is the model of what Christ's church ought to be: timeless and unrepentant in its convictions.

Those vestments don't look like anything I've ever seen and I've been at it for a long time. He could at least try to do better.

This thread could use a different title. Also Archdiocese of N.O. needs to clean house and those who acted to cover this up or further these sadistic exploits should be flayed

I didn't see one, either. Thanks for posting, Prodigal. This needs more coverage, IMO. Anyone in the church who enabled this should be locked away, including Archbishop Aymond.
