Teams should just have these power pitchers start their season later than everyone else. There is no sense in pitching your best pitcher in April just to shut him down in the playoffs. You end up just wasting the player instead of protecting them.

Same. I’m a Cubs fan and it will almost be an automatic loss when he plays

Someone who knows more about this data than me can hopefully explain but Twitter says it’s pretty good
Jared Jones is Spencer Strider 2.0 so the Pirates, by this time next year, will have the best 1-2 punch in all of baseball.

Trying to make sure he doesn't get to count this year as service time.
The new cba made it so the top 2 finishers in Rookie of the Year in each league count the year as service time.
If he got called up now that would be possible if he was dominant enough

Prob had his worst start yet today. His ERA has skyrocketed up to 0.99
He went 4 1/3, 2 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 4K
Interestingly he only threw 66 pitches. You would imagine Pitt would be trying to extend his pitch count each start like they had been doing and call him up once he’s been around 90-100 pitches
So a little strange he threw less pitches than last outing. Obviously could be a reason why…I’m just looking at box score

He will almost certainly be on a pitch restriction, so him going more than 5 or 6 innings would be highly unlikely. I'm a Cub fan too so best case scenario 0-0 after 5 or 6 and the Cubs get to their pen better than Pirates get to ours.

It's actually pretty common with starting pitchers in the minors, the Cubs won't any of the pitchers in their system exceed 80 pitches, unless by more than a couple to finish the batter their facing but that would be very rare.
Pitchers don't pitch near the innings in high school and college they will see in a full season of pro ball so most all organizations limit their innings and pitch counts.
Kind of the prevailing thought is a pitcher should not be required to pitch more than 30 innings more than they had the previous year. So these young guys coming up will be ramped up slowly.
I doubt Skenes exceeds 5 innings his first few starts, and even less if his pitch count gets above 75....which is the most he's pitched in any start this year in the minors.

Just google why skenes hasn’t been called up. It has to do with his rookie contract and his length he stays with the pirates.

Yet pitchers keep blowing out and getting hurt. The teams don’t give a shite, they push these guys arms to the absolute limit and destroy them so they don’t have to pay them. There’s always more flamethrowers to take their place

Hasn't he already passed the service time threshold? I understood it to be 3 rotation cycles or 15 days, which he's surpassed by several weeks and several cycles now.
If that is correct then that's no longer the reason he's being kept down. The fact is it's VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY rare for rookies to start the year in the Majors and while that rookie service time stuff is a think it rarely affects folks right out of college or high school. 99.99% of players will legitimately have to develop in the minors.

Ohhhh Google knows lol. The only way him getting called up affects that is if he wins ROY. That’s been true since mid-April

Yes, but you can’t tell that to the conspiracy theorists. He also just pitched on 4 days rest for the first time in his career

Going to the Braves game the 24th in a box from work. Any chance he plays?

Decent chance he’s up by then. Can’t have more than a start or 2 left in AAA. Play? Just depends on the timing.

And he'll be on a pitch restriction being as he's never pitched more than 75 pitches in a game in the minors, and mostly less than that, they won't let him pitch much more than that if any more. His first start may go 5 innings.
Good news is for Skenes fans is the Cubs are struggling at the plate now and none of their hitters have ever seen a pitch from Skenes before, so that's to his advantage.
