A federal three-judge panel on Tuesday threw out Louisiana’s recently redrawn congressional map which would have created a second majority Black district, leaving the state without a settled congressional map some six months before the November elections.
In the 2-1 ruling, the 5th Circuit panel found that the redistricting map approved by the Louisiana legislature, in a measure known as SB8, which established a second majority-Black congressional district in the state, “violates the Equal Protection Clause [of the 14th Amendment] as an impermissible racial gerrymander.”

WTH?
I thought the court demanded a racial gerrymander?

When the gerrymandering is so bad even the court throws it out

What a shitshow, lol. Why is a majority black district more important than a majority Asian district or a majority Hispanic district?

Jeff Landry's bastardization of the congressional map was never going to fly. He wanted to accomplish the screwing of Garrett Graves, splitting EBR into four districts ( he hates BR) and getting the feds off his back. He achieved none of these goals.
Conservatives who think Landry is "their man", are idiots. He is nothing but another tool of the trial lawyers. It is a lot easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled.

Color me shocked. The Little General will have to find some other way to stick it to Garrett Graves, although completely gutting the CPRA he built has to sting

Or a majority American district.

What does this mean for Louisiana. Now the courts get to draw a map with 3 black districts?

It’s been a good run of court decisions.
Maybe I won’t be thrown into a so-called Cleo Fields district.

I seem to recall one of the resident PT legal experts declaring this court couldn't do anything about this map.

My favorite part of this is the supporters of this map saying it was based on politics and not race. They said that the fact it would screw GG after he supported Wags over Napoleon was evidence that it was based on politics. Like that makes it a good thing? I get that racial gerrymandering may be seen as illegal depending on what court and what day it is, while petty political revenge as a motive isn’t illegal. However, doesn’t that just make Landry and the drafters of this map look small and petty? Just thought it was a strange argument.

They made Alabama draw a 2nd majority Black district.
As a result, they actually split Mobile County into 2 districts.

SCOTUS completely dropped the ball on this.

If Landry had any real sense he would tell the courts that creating a 2nd black district without gerrymandering is impossible and if they want to mandate one, they can draw the lines. If they can't, then frick 'em.

When asians and or hispanics make up more than 33% of the state population, then they can have a majority district

I thought Cleo Fields proposed map made the most sense, geographically.

Look at the different municipalities formed or in the process of being formed and tell me there are unified needs for all of them.
BR and Baker deserve someone like Cleo and that is not a compliment.
