Not some emotional wreck is who I am.

I don't really see the point in trading him in the offseason. He absolutely hurt his value, not just since returning from injury, but for the season as a whole.
See how he does for the first 25-30 games of next season. If he's dogshit again, let Trey take the starting role, wait until closer to the deadline, and use his massive expiring contract as best you can.
If he's good or great for that stretch, and restores his reputation as a fringe all star, then all the better for trading. The tricky part for the front office is going to be not buying into him as a long term piece if he is playing well.

BI could justifiably put a hit out on Dort. He cost him millions.

That a risky arse proposition. Since he's an expiring contract, if he gets hurt before you can trade him, you're fricked.

Fair enough. But realistically, if he sucks, we're not going to trade him anyway, just let him expire to avoid the tax. I just don't think that he has much value right now, so I'd rather take the risk and hope that he increases his value over 30 or so games.

It just simply isn’t an option to have BI in a diminished role. This coach and this front office put him out there as the face of the franchise. This was BI’s team coming into this season. They catered the new offense to him to start the season. We all saw BI’s behavior with a diminished role in the Laker game. It just doesn’t work to diminish a guy’s role in a contract year. You are asking for all sorts of trouble. The Pels have 2 options: extend him this summer or trade him.

That would be incredibly dumb risk losing him for nothing and would be the absolute worst possible scenario. I wouldn't even consider it. You move on from him in the summer when teams are much more likely to move their key pieces and start the season fresh.
We do not need to corner ourselves like we did with Ball when he started out hot, injured himself, came back playing inconsistent, we couldn't find a dead at the deadline, and eventually lost him for scraps.
Losing BI for nothing is not an option.

Will teams overlook it because of the injury and circumstance
I do think the narrative will be he was still affected by the injury and not 100%.
Which means next injury he has will be like the toe injury last year and he'll not return until he is 100% pain free, etc. like he did then. Which means you can likely count on him missing about 30 games whoever he plays for. To me that would damage trade value.

Is it good for both teams? How? Dejounte seems like the better player on a cheaper deal.
He was literally on the block this season and didn't sniff offers the level of BI
We all focus on the warts in BI's game because we're fans of the team and see him more than anyone else. I guarantee you there are Hawks forums where their fans are lighting up Murray the same way.
But, I just have to re-state, Murray did not exactly get much value offered at the deadline. The most was allegedly the Lakers offer of Dlo, Hood-Schifino, and a 2030 1st.

Yes. Letting salary go can be devastating
We let that salary go and our avenues to improve the team around Zion/Trey/Herb go poof, essentially.
Same with CJs contract.
That's why I imagine we have to re-sign JV

I think people understate the desperation of other teams this offseason, plus the lack of other all-star(ish) players and the need for wing play. Detroit in particular seems to me like a team that is embarrassed by their Uber-shittyness this season and will be looking to take chances to improve.
I bet we can get back at least a solid starter/good young player + a pick or 2.
