re: Would like to know why Anderson started over Herring

Meh. You gotta get 27 outs anyway. We were always gonna have to use the both and more. Herring's been great out of the pen, and Anderson seems more comfortable starting. But that's hindsight and not why we didn't win. It's because we scored 5 runs on a Sunday in Game 3 against the worst team in the SEC.

He’s just going to give the same nonsensical answer he’s been giving.

I’d understand it more if it was a better opponent, but against Auburn it should have been Herring to start. I get holding Herring for later innings against a better opponent, but we spotted them 5 in the first. That’s tough to overcome. I really wish they would have let Herring start this one.

He last started on March 13 and went 1.2 innings

But Anderson has not been good against the SEC.
Also, no need to spot Auburn 5 in the first in a game three.
I would rather Herring try to go as long as possible and still have nearly the entire bullpen to close it.

I’m going to refute this. We didn’t “have” to use Anderson. We got the last 24 outs using guys not named Anderson and gave up 2 runs.

If we didn’t shift that’s a shutout first inning

Quite a long time ago. Still a better option ATM to start this one.

Absolutely. That shift costed like 3 runs. He was giving up a lot of contact though, so I still rather we had started Herring. Or stop the amount of shifting.

And? He gave up one hit and zero runs. What’s your point?

that’s a lot of hindsight though.
I do t think Dutton is usually part of the plan

My point is he’s firmly entrenched as a reliever. People screamed for Matty Ott and Zack Hess to start too
Posted on 4/28/24 at 4:41 pm to LSBoosie
Your thinking is not flawed but when a Coach has to be so perfect on every call to plan for the lack of offense at any point in a game, you got bigger problems. So we give up runs early or later, we can't score enough to pull out most games and our record reflects that.

CJJ has a show on Monday night and if you go on LSUSPORTS.NET and click on the link, there is another link where you can ask a question.
1. Attend the show
2. Call in
3. Use LSUsports.net link
Go for it.

Ok? So because he was a reliever last year he can never be a starter? Grant Taylor wasn’t a starter his freshman year either, but I bet you he would’ve started games his sophomore year if not for injury.
Serious question, do you think there is a big difference between starting the game and coming in to start the 2nd inning?

You aren’t going to like the answer. But the reason is he knows he’s only getting 5ish innings out of Herring.
So he’s trying to decide where the other innings would come from. Anderson starting seems like a reasonable place to steal a couple of innings. It didn’t work out.

If Jay and Yeskie thought Herring would be more valuable as a starter than a reliever, he’d have started weeks ago. Utilization of Griffin Herring is one of the few things that’s worked this year.
Yes. 100%.

No shite. I disagree. Also, starting him today wouldn’t have kept him from continuing to be a reliever if that’s what they want.

I’m on record saying I have agreed with how they used him in the beginning of the season. That’s when we were trying to win 1/3 or guarantee any win we can. We are in a much different situation right now.

You’re right. Starting a game guarantees a clean situation. If a reliever is brought in to start the 2nd inning, you have likely already screwed yourself and the situation is much worse.
