Caleb will be a bust imo.

What heat? There is zero heat on the Falcons for picking Penix because it’s all just noise by reporters who get paid to get clicks. You think the Falcons give two craps about what some reporter or commentator says? We are months away from any games and that is all that matters. The commentators have already moved on to new “outrage”.
I can’t wait to compare the stats of Dallas Turner with those of Bralen Trice. Turner played with a squad full All Stars at Bama and benefitted big time from that. Trice had to fight double teams and was game planned for all season. Don’t be shocked when Trice is shown to be clearly better than Turner.

Atlanta could've gotten Randy Moss 2.0, BTJ11, Stud WRs going for 25-30nil/yr. Get him for 4yrs 20mil. Better than having Penix ride the bench.

Well Fontenot doesn't give a frick what people think of him, and that's the way it should be.

Spending on WR’s is about the dumbest thing you can do in pro football. Every WR is a Randy Moss because a defensive player is not allowed to touch them which takes away the advantages that elite WR’s use to have over average receivers. Look at last years WR stats. No one stood out except Hill who had the most TD’s and yards - and he was a 5th rounder!! CeeDee was probably #2 last year and he was the 3rd WR taken in his draft class. Point is everyone saying the teams who hit homeruns with Harrison and Nabers have no clue who will actually produce in their system. McConkey could have better stats than either of them.
The Falcons took the player they wanted because no available player was a can’t miss. I would have taken Mims but then everyone would have said taking an OLinemen there was dumb. Bottom line is the Falcons improved on defense thru this draft and got a QB they like. Time will tell the truth.

He has great ability, but the test is going to come when shite hits the fan, how does he react? If passes off the blame when he messes up his teammates won't put with that at the Pro level. Can he be a player that all of the team would go into battle come hell or high water?
I think with him being picked #1 and having more weapons at his disposal than Fields ever did brings more expectations.
Bears look way better on paper, but you still have to go out there and make it happen. I actually think the NFC North is turning into a real tough division.

KOA Radio reported that Denver had Nix ranked as the third-best quarterback on their board behind Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams. Nix was “their guy,” and it would have been too big of a risk to trade down while hoping he fell to a later pick.

The NFC North is a tough division, like the NFC South, because all teams are mid level and first round losers except the Lions. The Lions won that Division by 3 games. The Bears aren’t doing jack. They, like many others, just roll thru QB’s without making the commitment to build a full roster. The Lions finally figured it out and the Falcons appear to be on the same track. But, the NFC will still run thru SF and Philly because those teams have defenses and QB play.

Aren't you the same guy who said a few times in this and other threads that defense doesn't matter?
ETA: Your response to me, in page 2 of this very thread, when I pointed out all of the holes on the roster:

And to talk about DB’s is just funny. DB’s are worthless in today’s game where you can’t touch a WR. All that matters is having a QB who can throw to spots.

They have been building a decent defense and on top of getting DJ Moore last year they signed Keenan Allen and drafted Odunze plus signed DJ Swift. I’m sure you will shite in those players as no good, but to say they haven’t been trying to build full roster is clearly false

The other reason at quarterback was drafted in the first round because he is black.
This is just dumb because there is zero evidence the guy's race played any role whatsoever.
While I'm not saying I fully agree with it, here is the logic:
I think what Atlanta did here was hedge their bet on Cousins. They think he will be at least good enough to take Atlanta out of the top 10 draft placement, but they aren't sure he will be good enough to make them a true contender long term. So in what they think will be their last time picking in the top 10 for a while they took a "top 10" QB. If Cousins plays well they will still have the luxury of deciding whether they want to continue paying/extending a (then) 37 year old QB or transitioning to the QB of the future. If Cousins isn't what they want they already have the QB of the future in-house to pivot to and not have to be in that .500 range where they aren't "good", but not bad enough to pick at the top of the draft where a guy like Penix wouldn't be available to them.
Simply put, Penix likely doesn't help their team at all this season. But he's "insurance" for if/when they want to move on from Cousins
The only knock is that they probably could have gotten Penix at 8 without having to spend big on Cousins.
