I am 25% through the book. I would have assumed by now that I would understand the overall dilemma or connection of the characters 5/12 of the way through a trilogy. Somehow, I am still entertained, but I have no idea what Logan, Jezal, Ferro, Bayaz, and company are doing. I just know they are heading west somewhere, and when someone asks where they are going, Bayaz gets pissed. Due to lack of context, I find their chapters to be a bit of a grind. However, Dogman and West chapters are interesting because I understand what they are trying to do. They are in a war with Bethod.

So, my question is, did I completely gloss over their purpose? if not, can anyone offer a non-spoiler indication of how much longer until the main purpose of the book is clear?

Just keep reading. Been a while since I read it but hard to answer your question without spoilers.

It's about to get quite a bit better. He brought each of them along for a specific purpose. Pretty sure this isn't a spoiler because he's told them he's looking for "the seed" and that's what Ferro keeps pressing him for answers as to what that is. So even they really don't know. Ferro is pretty distrustful of Bayaz so she presses him pretty hard but her motivation is revenge, Bayaz has kind of promised her revenge on the Gurkish.

I think you're pretty close to finding out some cool stuff about Ferro and the action picks up pretty soon.

Once you've got a task to do, it's better to do it than live with the fear of it. You have to realistic about these things.

I wouldn’t skip anything, I got a little depressed after I finished the series. What a world to get immersed in

I just finished the book. All this time spent with the group and the seed isn't even on the island they spent the entire book trying to reach? I kept waiting for some reveal right at the end of the chapter. I'll still finish the trilogy because Dogman, West, and Glokta are entertaining, but I can't deny I'm pretty disappointed.

The third book is significantly better than the previous two, but Dogman's crew, West, and Glokta will continue to be the standouts. The difference with the final book is Logan's group actually has a good story too.

I find all his books after Before they were hanged to be excellent. If you don't really like the third book Abercrombie probably just isn't your bag.

Yeah just finished the first book again and stuck exactly where you are in OP. Ferro almost kills my interest in continuing.
