The government can throw all money they want at public education in EBR Parish, but it will never work. Parents need to be held accountable for the animals they put in the school system. The kids destroy the school and money won't help.

I love this board

And corporal punish is needed in all schools. No discipline, no education for the feral students.

I wonder how lacking the facilities were...$17MM is not a lot of money for a school. I've worked on master planned community rec centers that had a bigger budget.

This correlates with the thread about the 13 year old robber.
Segments of our society do not care.
No amount of money, fancy school buildings, technology, etc., will improve things.
Stop taking the “carrot” approach.

That was just a money laundering scheme to begin with. Was never going to be a school

Would make a great parish prison expansion .
How different is that from a school in NBR anyway?

You want to fix public education in Louisiana? Tie welfare benefits to standardized testing for each kid.
Send them all to “reform” schools. Essentially prisons.
If parents have a problem with it, they should raise their children better.

Are you under the impression that it’s the building’s fault?
You could fill that thing up with 100 home-schooled kids whose parents give a crap and it would be a top 10 school on Day 1.

Oh shite, is a corporate-owned school that looks like it was built to house a totally different kind of business suddenly closing after the 3 year state testing waiver that charters schools get ended?
This never happens.
This never happens.

Maybe when we run out of turd polish, or other people's money.

Seems like a good way to get your hands one some quick goverment grant money then bounce.
I mean, this is what is happening all over the country with charter schools, particularly in states with the voucher systems where they get the voucher money that follows the kid. Terrible, barely qualified/unqualified teachers (because the pay is crap at charters typically), and a focus on being a business rather than actual education.
Out here in AZ there have been numerous occasions of charters closing mid year and the owners bouncing with millions. And many of the politicians that push the voucher systems in either directly own charters or have family that do. Shocking how that works.

I wonder what would happen if you spent $17M building a school in St. George.
How's that Basis charter school doing that was built off Airline by Womens Hospital recently? I doubt they are closing down with their A Rating from the state.

This would fix the issues as much as anything. And that type of threat would fix 80% of the problem kids too.

They can be fixed…. Just like cats and dogs can be fixed.

The only thing they will reform is their criminal skills if they are put with other like minded men and women.

They sit in a cubicle for class. The only time they are allowed to interact with “classmates” is during a 30 min lunch period and two 15 min “recesses”.
Rotate the people they interact on a daily basis.
Never allow any close contacts.
If they want out of the school, they can receive points for grades and good behavior.
How we should run our prisons too.
Also, if the argument is “well, it’ll just let them be around others like themselves and make them worse”, so what?
It would make the situation for the ones they drag down in normal schools infinitely better.

It's a the home and community environment, as well as social media.
You take them away from those negative influences at an early enough age and raise them to be responsible, respectful human beings, you'd see a complete difference.
