Alaska excursion question

We are going on a cruise in September. It’s a 7 day cruise, but only had 3 actual ports.
I went on a similar cruise about 15 years ago with my parents and we did an excursion through Ketchikan I believe. It was a helicopter ride on top of the glacier. I can’t seem to find it on one of the offered excursions. I’m sure it was an outside tour but can’t find much online. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

Wife and I have done the helicopter glacier in Juneau and Skagway. Did not offer one in Ketchikan that I remember.

Juneau we have whale watching already booked and Skagway we have the glass top train.
What did yall do in Ketchikan?

Some friends went on a wildlife excursion of some type at Ketchikan and that’s what we should have done.
The other excursions were great; whale watching from a small boat at Juneau and the train at Skagway.

That is about all they have on the Norwegian website. I have zero desire to walk around and look at Totem Poles

We booked the Neets Bear Encounter in Ketchikan (Ward Cove) early in September.

We did ours out of Juneau ages ago and loved it. That and the don't feed the bear signs in the middle of the town were highlights.

We booked a fishing guide for a trip. Not a ship excursion.
The excursions suck in Ketchikan. Some totem shite and maybe some ax type stuff if I remember correctly.
ETA--then we walked around. Hit up a weed store and ate lunch and had drinks at a cool pub.

In Juneau we did the whale watching tour around Shelter Island combined with Mendenhall Glacier. Another time we did Mendenhall Glacier combined with a salmon cookout along the river. Both were fun but I recommend the whale watching.
In Skagway we took the all day train ride into the Yukon Territory. Highly recommended.
I have been to Ketchikan twice and mostly just hung around town. The Lodge on top of the hill is a good place to hang out.
Beware of one thing. There is a house of ill repute on the boardwalk but when you buy a ticket to go in you find out that it is some kind of fricking museum.

Do you have to book a tour for Mendenhall Glacier or can you just catch a bus or cab to get there?

When I did that cruise (only one ever), the whale watching trip was one of the best experiences of my life. It was a dream to see whales in person since I was a kid.

Glacier is about 15 miles from downtown. You can take a city bus (will have to walk about a mile and a quarter) or cab.
They also have shuttle buses operating between downtown and the glacier. There are plenty of short trails to take around the visitors center area, and the waterfall.

I went last year. Rented a car through Turo in Juneau and drove to glacier and other things. If you do the excursion through a ship, you won’t have time to walk to waterfall and walk around the visitor center. Walked Ketichcan, did train in Skagway.

Having a car in Juneau is a big plus. Some of the best sites arent downtown or in the Mendenhall Valley, theyre "out the road" or off of North Douglas.
The drive up Lynn Canal is gorgeous.

We did some boat trip to an island and wildlife excursion. It looked more interesting than the ax throwing or totem poles. Took a bus to a boat, boat to an island, walked around a rainforest, ate some crab and took a boat ride to see some seals and eagles and stuff. Decent time overall.

I'm going in September as well so let's keep this thread going. I plan on renting a Juneau and driving to the mendhall glacier and I need to find some other places to go.
Question do you have to book excursions beforehand or will they be available after you get off the ship?

We are looking to going on an Alaskan cruise next year. I thought I saw where Carnival offers a dog sledding excursion. That would be cool
