Time for the Saints to panic.
They will mortgage the future to get a key piece to a team with a roster that is going nowhere.

The Saints absolutely need an OT. But it's also considered to be a pretty deep OT draft class as well. So if one of their top 1-2 OT prospects are gone by the time the 14th pick comes around I wouldn't be surprised to see the FO pivot.
There is going to be a run on QBs early. Probably the same for WR. If there is an OT run, then that is likely going to leave some pretty damn good players at other positions sitting there at 14. The Saints could use a TE. What if the run elsewhere leaves Bowers available at 14? Or what about an edge rusher?
Point being, its the Saints. They could take another position at 14 then trade up from 45 to take an OT. I'm not saying that WILL happen. But I'd rather the Saints take a great player at another position than reach for need

It seems pretty clear what Jeremiah is saying here. Every team in the entire League knows how desperate the Saints are for OTs, so they are all posturing, especially the teams in front, to force the Saints into a situation where they will do what everyone knows the Saints always do: be aggressive and move up.

The Saints need to restock the shelves and draft the best available. Hopefully, that is an OT, but if it’s not they should pass and go to plan B.
We need to find a starter or two in the lower rounds plus some depth. We trade these pucks too often and find ourselves short of talent with little cap room.

Saints drafting Latham makes me wanna puke. I'm not even hardly excited about the Fashanu dude.

The moving up and aggression was a Sean Payton thing and it seems pretty obvious when you look at the drafts during his era vs Dennis Allen.

Except that Loomis has repeatedly said, even relatively recently, that its his philosophy.

Great!!! I can't wait for the Saints to trade up most likely take a really good tackle but convince myself that it was the right thing to do even though they sold multiple future draft picks away.

What are you even talking about?
Guess what are the 2 most important assets for the 2024 saints? The #14 and #45 picks. Guess what are the 2 most important assets for the 2034 saints? The #14 and #45 picks.
We need a tackle(or 2) now and the future. Should we just forfeit the picks?

i'm higher on the idea of not going ot than most. i've talked myself into seeing a lot of sense in guys like Dallas Turner, Latu, Terrion Arnold, Rome Odunze, and not sure about Byron Murphy. If there's a run of 4-5 OL ahead of us, then someone is going to be there dropping.

I’m talking about the Saints panicking and trading draft picks to move up to get that tackle. Trading 14 and 45 to move up a few notches.

Yea, so what. Go get the guy that’s a cornerstone of your franchise for the next decade, at a premium position.
Would be nice to not have to, but I’d rather do that than sit back and draft what’s left at 14

swallowing the fact we just did this drafting Penning makes me sick, unless the Saints come out and say we feel very confident in turning Penning into an outstanding LG on this team.

If there's a run on tackles then that means a premium defender or offensive weapon could drop to 14.
Saints aren't in position to trade future picks, especially with this being a make or break year for Allen

Is this franchise an open book that any idiot can read?
Posted on 4/24/24 at 11:06 am to Chad504boy
It is what it is. Hopefully Penning develops into a suitable player, at any position, but you need a tackle right now.
Trading up is as much about investing in the future at the position as mortgaging it. If we hit the pick, that player will be here for a long time.
