Matt Rife is a pretty good example of this. His act is almost entirely 100% crowd work and its pretty godawful. Really not sure how that guy got famous

I guess I'm not a purist because I found Rife to be amusing enough

granted I've watched like 5 minutes of clips total

I know it’s “the thing” nowadays to hate him, but he’s actually pretty good at crowd work. Better than most of the trash doing it these days.

His actual standup is terrible…and for that, I wonder how he gets specials. I know his Netflix one was met with similar reviews.

No it's not...

Have you even seen one of his shows, or did you just see him on a You Tube short?

I think Matt Rife is pretty funny for the most part, but i also think he's a one trick pony. i've seen enough of his stuff now that the formula / routine has started to stand out and become a little annoying. that said, he's still pretty quick on his feet. this kind of comedy just isnt really my thing though.

I dunno, seems clever enough from what little I have seen.

Sorta like Andrew The Dice Man Clay… not necessarily for everyone.

He's pretty good at what he does and gets a following because he's an attractive guy that's quick witted.

Honestly just sounds like you're jealous.
