Seeking tips for cool spots in Portland, OR

I’m out here for work and may be for awhile. Staying in Beaverton and my hotel is easy walking distance to a MAX rail station.
I’m pretty aware of all the issues in Portland over the last number of years, especially recently with the hard drug legalization and it’s results, but I also have to believe (hope?) that there are still some really cool areas to go that can be reasonably safe to get to and enjoy.
I’ve always loved areas with a laid back, relaxing, even bohemian type of vibe. Not a hipster but they don’t bother me either. I’d love to hear any recommendations on areas around downtown (or elsewhere if better) to check out for good beer, food and music that haven’t been overtaken by the criminal or super seedy elements. Slightly seedy should be okay.
Sir Winston, if you see this please chime in.
Thanks to all in advance.

Well I’ll probably be here into summer so maybe I’ll swing by and say hello.

If you work where winter clothes can be wool, you might want to check out the Pendleton Woolen Mills outlet that used to be just across the river in Washougal Washington.

Get out of the city for some nature.
Troutdale is a pretty sweet spot right on the edge of the CRG.
Keep heading east on the scenic route “Historic Colombia Hwy,” (not I-84). The gorge has some of the best hiking in the country. Go explore some wilderness.

If you get the chance make a road trip to Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast. You're welcome.

My tip is to stay far away from that shite hole.

Welcomed advice and appreciated. I do intend to get out of the city some as well. I’ve heard it’s beautiful out here. Thanks.

An expected reply and I’m sure there will be more like it.
If it’s not safe anywhere in the city I won’t go. I just have to think there are at least a couple of areas that are somewhat safe.

Check out the Mcmenamins Kennedy School hotel. It's got 4-5 bars in it and a brewery. They bars have a theme like the Principal's office (which was a whiskey and cigar bar. i don't think you can smoke in there anymore tho). Couple restaurants and a movie theater. The hotel rooms are all the old classrooms and still have chalkboards and stuff in them.
It's a unique place. That family, the Mcmenamins, have several more themed bars around Portland that are awesome

If you like architecture there is a Frank Lloyd wright house you can tour in silverton. And while their heat up all the falls in the state park.
Also hit up one of the many hot springs

Great stuff. Thanks!!
I do want to get out of the city some too but gonna be knee deep in work for awhile. We pull six 12’s while on assignment so Sundays are all I can do until my first provisional weekend which will be four days off. If I stay here for that instead of flying home I’ll hit up more of the out of town stuff.

If you’re in the Beav, check out BGs food cartel and the Breakside brewpub foot cart pod.
In Portland, stay away from old town/Chinatown. The Pearl is ok. NW part of the city around Providence park is nice. Most of the bohemian type places and cool little enclaves are on the east side of the river - Mississippi Ave, Alberta arts district, Hawthorne, Division, etc
If you’re adventurous, do the ape caves hike in Washington. It’s about 3 miles of bouldering inside pitch black lava tubes under Mt St Helen’s (headlamp and good boots required). Do not attempt if claustrophobic.
Also, trail of ten falls is pretty nice - starts off going right behind a big waterfall

Cross the river and go hang out in Vancouver. Great place

It's a fun city. Don't let the resident puss-cakes dissuade you. As the weather gets warmer it's *chefs kiss*

Portland is a great town but downtown isn't where I would hang out. Pearl District is very nice but not my favorite area. Hawthorne or Mississippi district is where I would hang. You will see homeless people and walk through encampments along sidewalks but the homeless aren't aggressive

Yes, go to the MLS Hotel!
After 11:00 pm. Go to the 3rd bar. Ask for the red door. You will have to ask 3 or more times if they don't know you.
Follow them down the stairs behind the red door.
You're welcome my friend.
