Getting married the second weekend of October. Looking at Italy as a possible honeymoon destination. Not really a sit in the beach type couple.
Has anyone done something similar?
Any tips/suggestions or must dos/must avoid?

We did a few days in Rome, then 4 days ravello, 3 days positano. It was a great honeymoon. Do it.

Can you share any more specifics? I don’t know where to start with putting this together. Never been to Europe

Positano on the Amalfi Coast.

Rick Steves books come in handy. He’ll recommend an itinerary throughout the country and then specifically in each town. Here’s an example on his website. Rick Steves
Also go check out Costco Travel’s website (or travel agency) for travel packages. Even if you’re not a member it may give you some ideas with descriptions of each destination.

I'm leaving on May 2 for a honeymoon in Italy. I'll let you know

I wouldn’t spend too much time in the larger, more touristy areas (Rome, Florence, CT) personally.
My favorite part of Italy (that I’ve been to) is Emilia Romagna and Piedmont.

You need to give a lot more info.
Are you set on Italy?have you been to Europe or out of country before?
What do y’all like to do? Mountains? Hiking? Cities? Eating and drinking? Museums? Skiing?

Have a look at this website. I have never used them but like to look at their itineraries for certain countries.

Not into major cities, but would like to see Rome if it fits.
More into mountains and hiking/eating and drinking.
Not dead set on Italy, but it’s a place we both would like to go to.

Two words. The Dolomites. Stunning and food is a blend of Germanic and Italian. Then you could spend a couple of days in Venice as a gondola ride is just about the most romantic thing you can do in that part of the country. Then tran to Lake Como or Lake Garda. Northern Italy at it's finest. Personally I'd also get over to the Piedmonte region but I am a sucker for the food (white truffles) and wine (Barolo and Barbaresco) there.

Ok this peaks my interest. Any pointers on where to start with the Dolomites? Specific towns, where to fly to, highlights, etc?
I plan to do some research later

I’d fly into Venice and decompress there for a day or so. The Dolomites are due north and are spectacular. A good place to base there is Cortina d’ Ampezzo. It’s central. You’ll need a car to get around because, well, mountains. There are tons of hiking trails.
Alternatively you could fly into Milan and hit Lake Como or Lake Garda first. The train system is excellent so you could train from Milan to Venice. There are a lot of options.

We went to Italy for our Honeymoon, It was fantastic. We flew from Houston to Rome. Spent a few days there. We loved Rome. So many things to see. Then we flew to Venice. Stayed on Lido. Took the vaporetto to Venice. Very peaceful on the island and enjoyed Venice. Can't go wrong there.

Haven't anything about Florence yet.
Not sure how you can go to Italy and not spend at least a couple of days in Firenze.
I'd probably fly into Rome --> Florence --> Venice, then straight north to Cortina. Then over to Lake Como and fly out of Milan.

The Dolomites are truly one of the most amazing places in the world.
You could do Milan, Lake Como, and the Italian Alps in Bormio as a good trip too.

Just got back last night. Flew into Milan then spent a couple of days in Bellagio. Took the train from Milan to Florence. Day and a half there then drove all around Tuscany for 2 days. Took the train from Florence to Naples and stopped at Pompeii on the way to Amalfi. Two days there and a day trip to Capri. Flew home from Naples.
I had been to Rome and Venice before so left those off this time. Amazing trip all the way around

We did 12 days in Italy and 2 in England to visit family on the way home. We went at the end of September - beginning of October. It was still hot in Rome and humid in Venice. Felt incredible in Florence and Chianti.
5 days in Rome - Sposi Novelli on day 3
4 days in Florence - attended mass at Santa Maria del Fiore, the "Duomo" on the Sunday.
Stopped into Bologna for a few hours while traveling from Florence to Venice
3 days in Venice
Rome was nice but we should have researched more before going, even though we researched a lot. There's just so much to see and experience there.
Florence was amazing. Recommend the Statue of David tour. We stayed across the river from the city, just inside the wall. We enjoyed staying in that location. We did a few wine tours into Chianti on one of the days.
Bologna was nice. Went there because my college fraternity has roots there.
Venice was ok. We enjoyed it, but it wasn't a place we'd choose to go back to.
We AirBnB'ed the whole trip and we are glad we did. We stayed in some great flats in great locations.
If you aren't driving, public transit is cheap. Avoid Uber or rideshares. They are expensive.
That's all I got. Eat a good carbonara and enjoy a glass of Barbaresco for me. Separately of course.

Fly into Milan, head to Sirmione on Lake Garda.
Then head up to Ortisei in the Dolomites. Look up Alpe do suisi for one of the greatest hikes you will ever have.
Then head back down to Verona for a couple of days.
Be sure you get a bottle of Amarone.
Then finish off in Venice.
All very close to each other and short drives.
