USC back up QB threw 6TDs in the bowl game.
We shall see...

Stamps can turn it on in practice in games he gets paranoid. Last year were absolutely horrible a dead person had better converge. Ole Miss ate us alive with their spread we were totally lost, thank goodness Corey Raymond has seen everything in the SEC . Our safety’s have to tackle, be physical, be aggressive play smart .

A lot of press coverage in the spring game. Woodland and Stamps looked good. Sage and Burns had miscommunication issues. Gilbert struggled tackling in space.
Exactly my thoughts of the spring game. Interesting that the much more veteran guys are the ones with the communication issues. Gilbert would not have pulled Williams’s flag in a hallway….reminded me of the Clyde vs Moses rep at one of the HS showcase practices.
With an actual scheme and a bit of effort, this defense can be top 60, and that can be huge with the way the offense looks.

Just don’t have the horses at safety and corner

The CB’s looked like they had good coverage and I think part of that was playing more press man. The weakness is our S play. They blow coverage and do not tackle well or are out of position to make a tackle.
We have to get the younger guys ready to play this fall.

Kelly is happy with their development
heard this before, and not just from Kelly

How do you think they will hold up, and do we have enough depth?
imo concerned until they prove themselves in the game

They’ll be better, and the safeties they recruited out of HS this year are really good.
Believe it or not, complimentary football will also help them, and I expect them to be a lot better at stopping the run as well as utilizing their many pass rushers.
There are not many teams with unique skill set guys like Womack, Swinson, Perkins and Reiliford.

We have a lot of bodies, but none I trust to guard elite receivers. Sage Ryan getting burned and being out of position at this point of his career is inexcusable.

I could be wrong and missed something but Woodland, Stamps and Brown looked good, not great, but it's spring and they are young. Jackson at Safety looks like a stud in the making. I do believe they will be better this upcoming season. Not LSU standards but a bridge to getting back to that level.

Last year: 2 steps behind
This year: 1.5 steps behind

Sage Ryan is a starter still so that’s a real concern.
Sage is an average corner. Should be he be CB1? No. But he's okay as CB2 and would be good as CB3.

He's been moved to one of the starting safety spots.

You can already see it.
We go out the first game with guys like Sage and Burns starting because Kelly always leans on veteran guys early in the season it seems.
They look horrible, we lose, only to start playing the young guys a few games in as we get back on track.

Yeah but think about the offensive production we got
We just had 2 Heisman QB's in 4 years and a Biletnikoff winner (should have been 2) in the same span
One hell of a trade off huh?

Stamps has miscommunication issues. He let his guy go when he should've been playing cover 3

I blame Brian Kelly.
He had a chance to go get some top corners and safties and he just didn't.
Maybe he will rectify that in this spring portal.
