People who make these suggestions - that a former great athlete would ipso facto make a great coach - are foolish. Coaching and playing are vastly different things.
If I had to pick an LSU football staff, and my choices were from the 2003 team’s starters are its walk-ons, I’d pick the walk-ons…by a mile!!

It's not just that. I think a guy like Tyrann, who was undersized and not overly fast, yet has had a very long and productive NFL career because he was extremely football smart and did the little things right. could probably make a good college DB coach.
But the gig is too important to let him learn on the job. However, the biggest thing is that assistant coaches have to log a ton of hours all year long. They're either in the building 18 hours a day or on the road in BFE kissing the asses of 16 and 17 year old kids. And guys who are worth tens of millions of dollars, have other business interests with passive incomes that pay them more than an assistant coach gig would and young families that they haven't been able to spend a lot of time with during their professional careers, probably don't want to be doing that when they don't have to.

For the sake of Pete, seek help
This is THE program - the best in all the land. Go get THE PREMIER instructional coach out of MLB.
Ben is great for LSU, but he has no desire to give up his family life to put up with the BS that comes along with coaching.

You do you know he is a full-time insurance agent in Nebraska and calls games for the SEC network?
Did you know that BM coached Alex Milazzo and Collier Cranford in travel ball?

Actually surprised it took this long into the season for this to be posted
All we need is for someone to start the Todd Walker as hitting coach thread.

What is the basis for this comment? Just because a player was great at his position that doesn’t automatically make him a great coach. Most great coaches were marginal or subpar players
