The case is based in NY law regulating businesses and Trump's company at issue is incorporated in....New York state.
why is Trump's company at issue? Isn't this based on improper campaign fund usage or some other BS? Or NYC is saying that he somehow violated some regs to earn the money that he used? That seems like a hell of a stretch. But honestly don't know what kind of weak footing they're standing on this time.

As a business owner with no partners I’m still not allowed to use business funds to pay for personal expenses. Even though I’m solely responsible for profit and loss, business expenses have to be business related. If not every company would show zero profit. I wish I could pay my mortgage or get a massage with business funds. I can take a payment from the company and then use those funds any way I like, but I can’t list hookers as a business expense.

Not directly. I think that's an ancillary issue.
The issue is the wacky NY business records and, allegedly, using the company money to pay it off, hiding the payment as a legal payment to Cohen.
