Your Death... Would You Want To Know When Or How?

Father time is sadly for us, undefeated. We all will die one . In the last past five years I've lost my grandfather and a close friend which has recently made me think of this topic. I for one feel like I'd personally choose WHEN I died , as you have more control over it as apposed to HOW. So would you want to know when or how you died?

If you find out you will die in 30 years, does that make you invincible for the next few decades?

I don't think anyone would like to know. Sorry about your father

No, but it's mentioned that I spend a lot of time looking up at work. Perhaps I subconsciously know that it's gonna be some final destination shite.

I pray that it’s painless, in my sleep and at an old age.
I want to see my kids become successful productive adults.

As someone who reads the last chapter before reading a book and reads about a movie before watching...Not sure I would like to know my own demise. The sword of Damocles.

I think I would want to know just to take advantage of the time remaining. It would definitely stink as it got closer knowing I was running out of time but at first I think it would be for the best.
Say I had like 5 years remaining. It's not immediate and it's far enough out to where you could probably easily do most of the things you want to do. In the last couple of months it would be crazy hard knowing it's all coming to an end but for the first 4 1/2 years it would be good.

Its impossible to truly know, by your question, I could know that I die in a plane crash on a given date, I never fly again, but a plane crashes into my house one night while sleeping.
I could know when and submit myself to a hospital just in case on the date of, evenin good health, and get treatment that kills me unexpectedly.
You could be told you have 6 months to live from cancer and be planning out those 6 months and get in a car accident on the way home from the oncologist and die.
It's a frivolous discussion, I'd answer that question with: "I'd rather when i die, whenever that is, knowing that my loved ones knew I was okay and that they knew how much I loved them. "
That's all the prior knowledge of my death I want and the reason I call my relatives with dementia and family that most people wouldn't contact regularly for various reasons.
Eta: please tell me one day. Maybe I can change it and be grateful for another day, maybe I can't. But I'll never wake up and have a day as grateful as that day, I'd rather that then a long wind down. It would just get more depressing the longer the wait.

I’d prefer about a 3 year notice. Enough to do whatever it takes to get affairs in order and live life conservative enough to ensure my family will never have to worry about money or security.
That will also give enough time to give it all I have to the company I work for and ensure my role is transitioned in good hands and in a better place than I found it.

If had 3 years I'd tell my company they have 2-3 weeks of my complete time and the next 3 years to get THEIR company set up. At that point its their legacy that they're responsible for, not yours.

If you knew you could grab a large life insurance policy before you croak

I almost bought the farm last year during surgery. After my surgeon told me about the complications I had during my surgery - I remember thinking that dying on the operating table under anesthesia would be a good way to check out...

Sure.
Why would an emotionally sound person not want time to prioritize end of life planning while assessing the needs of family members?
It would be selfish to say frick it, let them sort it out.

God: "Oh I forgot to tell him...26 of those 30 are spent in prison."

You have time to do that whether you know or not.
Everyone knows they could die tomorrow. If you choose to live as though that’s true, I personally don’t see much benefit in knowing exactly when.

Unfortunately a good percentage (10 %) or so of us reading this thread will die in some sort of accident or painful traumatic death. I don’t want to know about this ..

My friend’s dad died this morning. Maybe last night. No cancer or prolonged illness. Just old. He spent the last 2 weeks with his children steady coming to the hospital. That’s all you can really ask for. People to love at the end.
