Why do some fan bases Clemson, UT with the OC, seem to not be worried about the hire, where as the LSU board is going crazy over DC speculation? Is there a sense that its the last missing piece to the puzzle?

Huge difference in level of expectation. Many are depressed; even physically ill for a couple of days after an LSU loss.

did you not watch LSU this year? The DC hire is very important in terms of the future of the program.

Its a pretty crucial hire that could ultimately decide which direction the program goes under miles

This board is neurotic for the most part. AND there is a feeling that this piece will place the Tigers back where they were in 05-07. And if it is not fixed, the fear is that we will stay where we were in 08 (a big swing). But mainly this board is neurotic.

The reason that I pull for LSU to do well is b/c they are the only team in the SEC West that can prevent the evil Saban from taking over. It's like a Jedi/Darth Vader thing.

I would rather have an SEC with a lot of parity than a Big 12 situation where one division is horrible and the other is dominated every year by one of two teams. The reason being that if the division is dominated by one or two teams you are almost in a one game season every year. There have to be other teams that have a legitimate shot to beat the front runners. In the Big 12 in most years if Texas loses to OU or OU loses to Texas the division race is pretty much over because it takes two major upsets of the winner for the other to jump back in the race. The Texas loss to Tech this year was really lucky in the sense that if Texas doesn't drop an interception the game is over right there. And Texas needed Tech to play a tight game with OU and it was over before it started. While I am extremely confident that LSU will compete and win its share of games with Bama, I also hope that the other teams in the division including Tennessee who plays Bama every year are all good enough to have more than just a major upset chance of beating Bama.

this actually is the reason. We've seen what a bad coordinator hire can do to a program.

Ultimately, all of us remember a pretty successful head coach being brought down by a bad defensive coordinator, and the admirable, but misplaced loyalty to him. (Guys making that kind of money need to remember that their loyalty should be vested in the program and all of the fans who pay their salaries.)

In this case, many people are pushing the panic button wanting to know the answers NOW. Having seen that the two main targets, Peveto and Mallory have both received promotions with other programs (at least I think Mallory will be the sole coordinator, so a half-step up) - that shows that Miles can balance the needs of LSU, with treating people professionally and appopriately.

But yes, as a lifelong LSU fan I cannot imagine a single other school's fan base obsessing to the level that the Rant is regarding coaching changes at the coordinator level and below. It is as unique to LSU as causing earthquakes at LSU games.
(I would also say that LSU is unique at calling for the firing of very successful coaches i.e. Mac and most recently Miles, but then I recall that Miami (FL) fired Larry Coker after going 60-15....unfreakinbelievable)

And I don't deduct for redundancy because you said it so well.

a) because we want to win
b) because we saw the result of our HC's judgment in the last hire.
