So now that I've seen it. Yeah I don't understand the point of hiding that. I won't spoil it so I'll stay vague but narratively if that's made clear in episode 1 nothing about this story changes so why write to hide it?

Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about the twist yet, I think we have two more episodes remaining so let's see how this plays out.

This is one of the most interesting shows I've seen in awhile. I hope it catches on.

I watched the first 3 episodes and kinda lost interest. I read about this huge twist though and may go back to finish it now.

Between this and Outer Range starting back next week, my binge watching experiences will be peak weirdness for a while.

Potential Spoilers
WTF? I just finished the 6th episode, watching the 7th now, I didn’t see that happening. That’s the first time in a long time I didn’t at least get a hint of some big twist happening in a show.

Ok, I watched the finale last night. I won't spoil anything yet but it felt pretty meh.
A couple things that bothered me this season, surface things not the big thing, the cuts to classic detective movies (Vertigo, Double Indemnity etc.) just made me wonder why I wasn't watching those movies and didn't help when I compared Sugar to those. The second (and this is a thing that almost never bothers me but) in an episode he mentioned LA Confidential. James Cromwell stars in LA Confidential and is the person that hires Sugar in this series. So, did James Cromwell not star in LA Confidential in the world of Sugar?

I can't watch the finale until tonight but feel like I can answer these two questions.
1. I believe the idea of the cuts to classic films is how Sugar learned/trained for his job since he's not from here. He probably consumed a lot of noir films since his "day job" is being a private detective. And on just a personal note, I think it's just a hat tip to the genre in general. I do find myself going back and watching noir films again since the start of the show, including a couple referenced directly.
2. I don't get this either and the weirder part is they got the year wrong as well IIRC. It may just be a homage to Cromwell, Farrell said in a recent interview he really respected his work and loved working on set with him.
I kinda prefer just a modern noir, I enjoyed the inner narrative and old film cuts, the twist I'm not sold on but I need to see tonight how it plays out. I would watch S2 but not sure if I really want it if that makes sense.

I thought the exact same thing. I wasn't sure if it was unintentional...but then I thought there was no way they could be that lazy. So if it was intentional, what does it mean/why do it? Perhaps its a nod to Cromwell but it just seems like a strange choice.

This show is awesome. For people bitching about Hollywood having something new and fresh well this is it.

I also enjoyed it. The twist was kinda cool. The Cromwell/LA Confidential thing doesn't bother me at all.

Loved the series until we find out he’s a fricking alien.
The Seinfeld gif sums up my reaction. I’m not a sci-fi guy.
Limped home for the last 2 episodes but really didn’t give a shite after ep 6

I didn't hate the twist. Again, I would've preferred a modern noir with Colin Farrell looking awesome in great suits and driving a cool car. I did hate them hiding the twist, you could've played it straight and said they were aliens from jump. Since you hid that you also hid the truth about his sister and his friend. There were no breadcrumbs that could've lead you to the reveal about Henry (I think that's his friends name). He also just appeared to pick a torture CD at random, I don't think it was the last one it looked like just one out of the middle that happened to reveal the same things his friend said.
Also, and this might be subjective, but Sugar was kind of a shitty detective. Just drive here and talk to this person and then go talk to someone else and then do it all over again. He never really figured anything out on his own it felt like.
I'm not sure if there will be a season 2. I think I read that Farrell wasn't interested in doing multiple seasons. He's also got the Penguin show coming on Max.

So I finally watched the finale and slept on it for a couple of days and I think I've concluded that I prefer the show just to end rather than have another season.
I did not see the point of making him an alien and then waiting so long for the twist, that you barely have time to acclimate because the season is wrapping up.
I was sold on the idea of watching a modern noir starring one of my favorite actors. There was no need to flip it to a sci-fi show and it became incredibly frustrating because it left you with more questions than answers and not in a good way (Severance did this in a positive way).
If it returns for a new season, I'm sure I'll watch it but even the ending left me caring less for Sugar's character.

This is how I felt about the show. I was all in on Farrell, black suit and shades, old corvette, and old Hollywood vibes. Kind of reminded me of the new Lincoln Lawyer series on Netflix.
Then he turned into Avatar. I felt cheated that the show never once alluded to this, but I guess that is considered a "big twist." Like if they billed the show as a paranormal/sci-fi type they may not have gotten the larger audience they wanted. Oh well, if there is another season I am not interested.

I think this was intentional. So you got pretty much a full season of a noir style show like you wanted. And then the twist.

I think he did have to piece some things together from people he talked to.
But he’s not from earth so he doesn’t really know how to be a real detective besides what he’s seen in the movies.

Just finished this, and I actually really enjoyed it.
I feel like the twist shouldn’t have worked for me, but it did, and ultimately felt like it enhanced the overall story. It took it from a good noir type show, and transformed it into something more. However, I certainly can’t fault others that are pissed off bu the twist. I get it.
I really enjoyed Collin Farrell in this role. I also don’t necessarily feel like a second season is needed, but I’d definitely watch it.
