I'm sure your boss got rid of a productive model employee because they arbitrarily just didn't like you.
I've had one of these, and I've never even sniffed at being fired. In a nutshell...I answered directly to this lady, but her boss hired me. Her boss LOVED me. I mean teacher's pet kind of loved me. Turned out this lady was mad I was hired over her friend, and she legit had it out for me.
Made herself look like a complete fool with the ways she tried to "catch" me doing things wrong. Thankfully I bolted after a year, as she was miserable to be around. Her boss gave me a glowing recommendation.

It happens plenty. We offered a guy who accepted and then was retained. He was leaving because his boss “had it out for him”. We were thrilled to get this guy who we knew was a superior employee.
The owner of their company found out he was leaving and that the manager had told the employee, “Don’t let the door hit you in the arse.” The owner retained the employee by firing the boss.
If the owner had not been on his toes we would have gotten that guy. So shitty bosses do run off good performers sometimes.
